We ve had several members and non members join us for the weekly rides.. Only goes to show when you take the time to talk with people, have a great web site and use social media, the word is out there. I have been asking non members where they had heard of our Chapter, some were at Open Road Honda s open house, others found us on social media or the web site. Also the work Al Klein did for the chapter in putting together this years ride schedule and Darrell Thuerer s work in printing the schedule onto the wallet cards. All this has been had a positive effect on the Chapter. As I m writing this newsletter Memorial Day has not happened yet. But as always our Chapter will join in on the Memorial Day ride. I m always so honored to do this ride. What a great way to show our support for past and present solders in our great nations military. What s happening in June, wow lots. Chapter C s ride around Lake Superior and it is not to late to join in on the ride. More information later in the newsletter, come join the fun filled 10 days. With the days getting longer the rides are longer with the longest at 87 miles. On the June 20th ride to Riverdale we will be joined by Minot riders. If any one has not eaten at The Knights Lodge in Riverdale you have to join us, its always good. June 30th is the next all day Saturday ride, this one I m calling Teddy s Ride. We will leave 8 am from the Flying J truck stop west of Mandan, we will ride west to Beach ND, then North on Highway 16 up and around the Theodore National Park. It s going to be another long day ride so come prepared to ride. Everyone, all bikes are welcome to join in on the ride. Check out the route and schedule https://trips.furkot.com/ts/dbrsk7 Last plug for Chapter s ride around Lake Superior, if you plan to join us check out the information in this newsletter. Until next month, ride safe GWRRA ND CHAPTER C May 2018 Clint Wald GWRRA ND Assistant District Director May 2018 Page 1 of 13

The Fargo Airshow is again this summer, July 28 & 29 th. The ND-C & ND District would like to help out again this year. At the last airshow we helped out with ticket sales and were gate ticket takers. We had a few people from Bismarck and several people from Chapter D in Fargo that helped out. It really was a great time and we made a little money for our local chapters. So mark your calendars and plan on coming out. At the last airshow we were able to take some time during the two days to go to the show, so if anything it s a free pass to the show. Check out the Fargo Airshow web site for more information. We will need to know the numbers soon, so as soon as you know if you are able to help and plan to attend please let me know! Do you have photos, news articles, stories of your travels or items for sale? If so, please submit them to Shirley Klein at as-klein@msn.com June 2018 Page 2 of 13

Good evening Chapter Directors and others listed! You may have already seen this on Facebook but, just in case. It is with great pleasure that I announce the certification of 3 new Rider Course Instructors in the District of Minnesota. Bob Hicks, Scott Mattson and myself received our certifications for Advanced Rider Course (ARC) Instructors on Saturday, May 19 th, 2018. Please note that this is a certification to instruct two wheel courses only. Our intent, once fully certified in the ARC, is to certify for the Trike Rider Course (TRC) as well. What does this mean for our members? Plenty! Below is a little information on how our certifications will help the Members of Minnesota: We remember hearing something about this some time ago and it resurfaced when I was entering member information from the IRC hosted by Chapter Q on 4/28 and 4/29 and from the IRC hosted by Chapter R earlier this month. The following notation was on some members records: Not Eligible to Add Recert Course. After asking questions, below is information I d like to make everyone aware of: It is felt that riding is 80 90% mental and 10 20% physical and a classroom session is needed to refresh that 80 90%. I want to emphasize that the IRC (Intermediate Rider Course formerly known as BRC2) is still considered a recertification course for GWRRA purposes. However, the IRC may no longer be taken consecutively for Levels update. Curriculum is in place through Home Office to help maintain the Members Level. This is not new and has been in effect for a few years now. This curriculum includes both the Advanced Rider Course (ARC) and Trike Rider Course (TRC), is based on an every three year schedule and alternates as follows: Full Course including classroom and range Range Course only (known as a recertification course) Now, there are Members that currently take the IRC on an annual basis to brush up on their skills and shake off the cobwebs. That s great and encouraged! Our Members need to understand that this MSF Range Course alone will no longer keep their Level current. Watch for more information on this in the Insight Newsletter. You ll find the information written by Tim Grimes, International Director of Rider Education. Please feel free to contact me with questions. I may be better able to explain this verbally versus in writing. Sometimes words on paper don t have the same meaning. Thank you in advance! Upper Michigan Ride Thursday, August 9 - Sunday, August 12, 2018 Come join the Beemans from Minnesota and the Wallochs from Wisconsin for a fun filled riding adventure to the UP of Michigan. The choice resort is The Root Cellar on beautiful Lake Gogebic in Marenisco, Michigan. This is a 4-day adventure that is sure to please our motorcycle riding friends. The UP has many great roads for our riding pleasure with low volumes of traffic. There will be guided rides leaving the resort on Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday. There will also be self-guided rides set up for those that wish to venture out on their own. The Porcupine Mountains, Bond Falls, and Copper Harbor are some of our ride destinations. We are gathering information and costs per person to do a pontoon ride on Lake Gogebic one of the evenings. There will also be games, horseshoes, or a campfire to enjoy. There is a restaurant on the premises for dining from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, and noon-9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Routes will be set up from Wisconsin and Minnesota for the ride up if you wish. Information regarding good meeting points where you will be able to join the group will be sent to you at a later date. For more information about the Root Cellar please visit http://therootcellarresort.com/. Reservations may be made by calling 906-842-3535. Rooms are very reasonably priced starting at $50/night. The room block for the basic rooms will be held until May 1. There are also some cabins for rent and may be reserved if available when you call to reserve your room. There is a minimum two night stay and their cancellation policy is two weeks. Contact Bruce & Barb Beeman at 507-438-7063 or Don & Cheri Walloch at 715-459-2449 for more information. Please let one of us know if you plan on riding along. June 2018 Page 12 of 13

Think 2019 - begin planning now! Hi this is Jeff Stine from MN Chapter N. This year my wife and I had a great trip out to Las Vegas. It was so much fun that we are looking at the next great trip and want to invite some friends along. We are planning a 2 week trip out to the West Coast. Points of interest that we are looking to visit are Devils Tower, Beartooth Hwy, Hwy to the Sun, the Columbian River Gorge, US 101 along the entire Oregon coast, the Redwood forest in California, Lake Tahoe and Reno. We will be crossing 3 major mountain ranges, the Rockies, Cascades and the Sierra Nevada, The time frame that Beth and I are looking at is late June/ early July 2019. If you might be interested in this trip please let me know. I will set up a planning meeting/ BBQ for this Spring to get the wheels rolling so to speak.
