It always amazes me that we anxiously wait for the very warm weather to arrive and then immediately start worrying about the inevitable shortage of rain. The April Second Friday Dinner was a big success as the Social Committee and selected members (depending on your last name) offered up a vast array of delightful entrees. The 50:50 raffles continue to be a significant part of our fundraising efforts for our reserve fund which is necessary to support our aging infrastructure. Despite my best efforts to write down the names of the lucky winners, I misplaced them and my normal backup in situations like this (my wife) wasn t there and so cannot help me out. Anyway, congratulations to the winners who pocketed around $130. Ed Olsen has now been designated as the permanent 50:50 ticket salesperson. The comment was overheard that Ed could sell sand in the desert. We also had some guests who recently moved to the area and are interested in joining our Association. All in all, a nice evening. The Bingo group enjoyed the third Wednesday and we had what seemed to be a first. I believe Ruth Ann Clarke won half of all the games played. I heard through the grapevine that she took her cards home to have them framed. Not a bad return on investment. Thanks to Diane Henn for providing great desserts. Once again last month, Ed Olsen and his Wheelchair Ramp Building Team(s) were busy in April. They built two new wheelchair access ramps for disabled seniors in St. Johns County. Many of our members are actively involved and donate their considerable time and energy to these worthwhile construction projects. The President of the Council on Aging came to lend her experience. It was great to have two women join the ramp building efforts this past month! On a different note, we are in urgent need of one of you to take over the coordination role for Second Friday Dinners for the remainder of 2017. From our nearly 240 members, I am confident that somewhere among you we will find a volunteer to take over this important role. Please be reminded to mark your calendars for June 17 for the Luau at SPVCA. More to come on that event. Hope to see you at the May Second Friday! When, in 1922, he is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, the Count is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit and who has never worked a day in his life, now lives in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him a doorway into a much larger world of emotional discovery. Amazon Please join us. More players mean higher Payouts!
