Saturday October 27 Sunday October 28 Monday October 29 After breakfast, we drive north through the "White Highlands and have lunch at the Aberdare Country Club. We leave our luggage except for an overnight bag, which is all that is allowed at the Ark. Special vehicles then transport us to the Ark, set in lush forests 7,500 feet up in the Aberdare National Park. The Ark is "berthed" over a water hole, where elephant, rhino, buffalo, and giant forest hog come down to drink. Children must be seven years old to go to the Ark. B,L,D After breakfast at the Ark, we will descend to the Aberdare Country Club to retrieve our luggage. We then proceed north toward Mt. Kenya, where a stop at the Equator is a must. After our Equator stop and mandatory picture, we will continue to Sweetwaters Game Reserve. This is a privately owned game ranch, which enjoys magnificent views across a game studded plain to the snow capped peaks of Mt. Kenya. Our accommodations will be luxuriously appointed tents with en suite facilities and private verandas. Each tent overlooks the water hole, where game comes to drink. Day and night game drives, plus optional bird walks, and camel safaris and first class cuisine ranks Sweetwaters in a class of its own. B,L,D An early morning game drive and breakfast will get us on our way as we head to the Rift Valley and Lake Nakuru National Park. This park has become increasingly popular due to the large number of white rhino translocated from South Africa. Lion, leopard, and resident flamingo may also be seen. We will stay at Lion's Hill Lodge and have a game drive after lunch. B,L,D Tuesday October 30 Wednesday October 31 After breakfast at the lodge we will drive back to Nairobi for lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant, where you can dine on zebra, giraffe, and other game. We will catch our flight to the Maasi Mara at 2:30. Kitchwa Tembo Camp, set within the Maasi Mara, is our base for the next two nights. The Maasi Mara is considered by some to be the best game park in all of Africa. It is the site of many wildlife documentaries and the greatest spectacle of the animal kingdom, the Great Migration of millions of herbivores from the Serengeti. Following a late afternoon game drive, we will relax at the lodge with cocktails and a delicious dinner. B,L,D A full day safari in the Mara, Kenya's best game park, will be the highlight of your African adventure. During the morning you will have the chance to take an optional balloon ride over the Mara, complete with champagne breakfast and game drive. Or, for the more adventurous, there is an optional fishing trip for Nile perch in Lake Victoria. For those who do not wish to go ballooning, a morning game drive before breakfast will start your Mara safari. The day ends with the afternoon game drive and relaxing at the lodge in the evening.
