Mallee Shield 2017/18 Round Robin Open and Plate Mixed doubles Tennis Tournament Hosted by the Mukinbudin Tennis Club As a crowd gathered for the 40th Mallee Shield, Mukinbudin Tennis Club were this year s hosts. With seriously windy overcast weather the day didn t start out ideal with many players having to really adjust to the conditions. As the day wore on the windy conditions alleviated making perfect weather for the last couple of games. This season there were 16 pairs nominated from Mukinbudin, Beacon, Welbungin and Trayning Tennis Clubs. All competitors played a qualifying round, selecting two pools of 4 teams to play for the Shield and 2 pools of 4 team to play for the Plate, a round robin for each pool was then played. The winners from each pool went on to play in the final. After some exciting tennis, and much enjoyment eight couples took to the courts to fight it out for the finals, everyone else watched on. Final results were as follows: Mallee Shield Winners Murray Cooper & Ade Whyte Mallee Shield Runner Up Murray & Kerry Junk Plate Winner Donna Cooper & Kim Graham Plate Runner Up Pace Vernon & Louise Sellenger A BBQ tea was a fitting end to a day of fun and good sportsmanship.
