Local Happenings NEW VILLAGE RETAIL PENDLETON STREET THE ANCHORAGE NEO BURRITO "The recent Village of West Greenville revitalization to this point has hinged largely on artists studios and some standout restaurants, with a few retail spots in the mix. That s about to shift as nearly a dozen more retail tenants have signed leases along Pendleton Street. One of them, interior design studio Dwell Chic, at 1296B Pendleton St., scrambled and managed to open for the May First Friday festivities after only a few days in the new space. Rakan Draz of Avison Young represented the landlord in the transaction. Sarah O Dell of Dwell Chic moved to the Village into the back of the former bank building at 1279 Pendleton St. in May 2017. When she was looking for a larger, more visible location with more storage space, she didn t have to look very far." "A piece of history on Pendleton Street is slated for redevelopment in the growing Village of West Greenville. The Mutual Home Store of Greenville property at 1256 Pendleton St. and two additional storefronts across the street at 1259 and 1261, totaling approximately 16,000 square feet, are under contract. Approximately 10,000 square feet are under contract with Branwood Properties LLC, and the additional properties are under contract with a local marketing firm... Plans currently include five to six separate storefronts on the westbound side of Pendleton that could be outfitted for retail and restaurants." "The Anchorage, with its talented chef and owner, Greg McPhee, its unique partnerships with passionate local entrepreneurs, Mike Okupinski and Ed Buffington of The Community Tap, and it s location, the budding creative Village of West Greenville, has received quite a bit of attention. The restaurant is exquisite both in appearance and in food. The space, which McPhee renovated from the ground up, has a refined feel, but a cozy one at the same time. The building s original doors hang just above the front windows, now turned into delightful art pieces..." "If you love burritos and all things taco, you ll love this. Asheville s wacky, space-themed Neo Burrito is coming to the Village of West Greenville at 1268 Pendleton St. President Walter Godfrey says they re shooting for a summer opening, as long as all goes as planned. Across from the Village Grind coffee shop, Neo will be the fourth restaurant to open in the Village in a year, after Golden Brown & Delicious in August 2016, the Anchorage in January, and Coastal Crust s planned opening in July. Neo Burrito s other locations in Asheville are in River Arts District of West Asheville, Biltmore Park, and East Asheville..." -Upstate Business Journal, May 28, 2018 -Upstate Business Journal, March 22, 2017 -Greenville News, January 18, 2017 -Greenville Journal, January 31, 2017 9
Local Happenings VILLAGE PLAZA GROWLER HAUS TROLLEY COASTAL CRUST " The Village of West Greenville will soon have a new public plaza scheduled for completion in October. Located between The Anchorage and Community Journals on Perry Avenue, the roughly 5,000-square-foot plaza will feature lights strung from rooftop to rooftop, one-of-a-kind cast-iron light poles donated by local businessman and community leader Richard Heusel, and public art as a nod to the area s thriving arts scene. The plaza will also include a large artistic Village of West Greenville sign funded by a $3,000 Placemaking Micro-Grant from the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors..." "Upstate-based craft beer venture Growler Haus plans to open a new location in the Village of West Greenville. Craig Kinley, who founded the concept in 2012 after spending two decades in the telecom industry, said he has signed an agreement for 2,400 square feet of indoor space and an 800-square-foot beer garden at 12 Lois Ave...Four to five new jobs will be created as a result of the announcement, Kinley said. We re absolutely thrilled, he said. The Village of West Greenville is an area that we ve been looking at for some time. The energy and momentum in the community is something that we re very excited to be a part of... "One of the city s new trolleys would serve Augusta Street, Cleveland Park and the Greenville Zoo, while the other would serve the Village of West Greenville under routes unveiled by Greenlink Monday afternoon. The city is buying and funding operation of two new trolleys. The trolleys, which are being paid for through hospitality tax revenue, must support restaurants, retail, parks and leisure destinations outside the central business district by providing tourists and residents transportation. The trolleys are free and will start at Falls Park. The first proposed route would serve The Village of West Greenville by traveling Pendleton Street to Brandon Mill..." "Coastal Crust Greenville will rely heavily on fresh produce from local farmers and the future Feed & Seed nonprofit farmers distribution network. Coastal Crust pizzas have a thin, crispy crust cooked in a woodfired oven. The pizzas only take 2-3 minutes to cook and can be loaded with a lot of fresh, seasonal ingredients. For the Greenville expansion, Brian Piesner and Mickey DeMatteis of Coastal Crust Charleston have partnered with Bryan Lewis, owner/ operator of Charleston s Básico, a Mexican restaurant; Mixson Bath & Racquet Club; and Mixson Market..." -Greenville Journal, July 28, 2017 -Upstate Business Journal, August 29, 2016 -Greenville Journal, January 17, 2017 -Upstate Business Journal, June 10, 2016 10
