The Newsletter of the GMC Great Lakers Motorhome Club, Inc. Volumn 42, Issue 4, August 2017 America s Oldest and Largest Regional GMC Club for Preservation of the GMC Motorhome! Dales Wails! Hi Partners, Does everyone know what a bucket list is? It's a list of things you want to do before you die. I completed one last week. I got to take a glider ride in Ionia at the July rally. They pull you up to 5000 feet and then turn you loose, actually I pulled the yellow handle. 5 other members went for a glider flights on Friday and Saturday. It was a Great Ride and nobody crashed. Dale Frahm President 2017 GMC Great Lakers Upcoming Rallies 2017 Solar Eclipse Rally August 18 thru 22 Paducah, KY Combined Rally with GMCMI September 15 thru 21 Elkhart Campground Elkhart, IN The next thing on my list is to see a full solar eclipse. Hopefully it happens in Paducah, KY with no clouds in the sky. We will drive 600 miles to see 2 minutes of total darkness. But this will be in our great GMC motorhomes. See You There Happy Trails Dale beefrahm@yahoo.com Words of Wisdom: Confusion Says old age brings on Confuses

Southern Hospitality Rally Oct. 3-6, 2017 Winton Woods Hamilton County Park 10245 Winton Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio 45231 (Do NOT Use Winton Rd Entrance; Use Sharon Rd/Campground Entrance) Check-In: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 (After 2 PM) Check-Out: Friday, October 6, 2017 (By Noon) Jerry and Bea Newman are happy to host their first GMC Great Lakers Motorhome rally, along with co-hosts Steve and Becky Johnson. We hope you can join us in the southwest corner of Ohio at Winton Woods, a Hamilton County Park in Cincinnati starting Tuesday, October 3 rd (check in after 2pm) and departing Friday, October 6th (by noon). All sites during the rally MUST be reserved through Bea Newman, however, any extra nights must be reserved on your own. You ll need to contact Bea beforehand to get your camp site #, if you want to reserve extra nights. Winton Woods has full hookups, including 30/50 amp service, water, and sewer. The park is big with plenty of easy hiking/ biking trails and a lake. We will arrange a pontoon boat ride around the lake. (You will need an Ohio Fishing License if you plan to fish.) The campground is small and popular so please make your plans ASAP Registration Deadline is August 30th. If your coach is not available to come with you, there are cabins to rent on your own (Greatparks.org 513-521-7275). This popular campground fills up quickly, especially on weekends. If you want to stay longer or come earlier, another option for extra nights is to stay at the FMCA campground, about 40 minutes from Winton Woods. First two nights are free, full hookups, rest rooms, but no shower. (See the FMCA website for more information) A Tuesday evening social, a field trip to downtown Cincinnati, and a couple of tech sessions are in the works. Cincinnati has a wonderful riverfront with bench swings overlooking the Ohio River. And a walk across one of our bridges gives an exciting view and photo opportunities of Ohio and Kentucky. Breakfast will be included on all 3 mornings of the rally, and Dinner will be included on Wednesday and Thursday. Consider bringing a snack to share with the group at the Tuesday evening social. You will need to plan on packing a lunch with a drink for our field trip to the Ohio River. (If you have a small lightweight lunch cooler, that would be perfect.) The Great Lakers have a stone soup recipe that everyone takes part in, sounds like a delicious fall camping dinner. Please bring your stone (vegetable) to add to the pot. And if you have a favorite side dish or dessert, please bring this to the Great Laker election night feast. We hope you will join us at the all important election rally in Cincinnati the first week of October. Reservations and payment are due by August 30, 2017. (GPS coordinates for the campground will be provided to those who register for the rally.) Any questions, please call Bea Newman at 513-919-2026, or email at roverb4@gmail.com

GMC Greatlakers SeptemberRally The GMC Great Lakers MHC will be having our September as a join rally with GMCMI in their Fall Convention in Elkhart, Indiana. It will be GMCMI s 35th Anniversary! The Convention will be held Friday, September 15 through Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana. Registration is open for the 2017 Fall GMCMI Convention. All Great Lakers as well as GMCMI members are welcome you to join in the celebration. GMC Eastern States, GMC Great Lakers, GMC Heritage Cruisers and GMC Midwest Classics will be utilizing the Convention as their Fall Rallies. We invite all of you to come and celebrate the 35th Anniversary of GMC Motorhomes International. If you need further information on the September Rally/Convention you can go to the GMCMI site to get the convention info and entry form. THE SUMMER FUN RALLY Alice Springs Campgrounds Ionia, MI The Summer Fun Rally of July 27, 2017 came to a close after 3 (4 for some) days and nights of good food and wonderful fellowship. We had 16 coaches with 31 people in attendance with nice visits from John and Deb P. s family. We had large campsites with full hookups. Mother Nature was good, no rain, lots of sun, but windy. The wind made for great glider rides which 5 of our members took part of. You could even see the campground from the air. It was great fun gliding and fun for those of us that watched. Several people went shopping and brought back good buys. There were card games, Qwirkle, campfires and lots of socializing with smiles and laughter. What an enjoyable time was had. Your host, John and Rita Stehlik along with Merle and JoAnn Carpenter would like to thank you all for making this rally a real success. Corporation Bylaws & Standing Rules The voting process for the Corporation Bylaws and Standing Rules was completed at the General Business Meeting of the July 2017 Rally. Both items were approved by the membership and now will be reviewed by FMCA and then uploaded to the Members Only area on the club website. If you wish a hard copy you may download and print the documents from the website. Those of you that get your newsletter by USPS mail may request a copy. Sunshine and Clouds Again it was all sunshine, with the clouds gone for the month. Rally Reimbursement Policy Update The Executive Board has issued and update that will be in effect for the remainder of 2017 pending a review at the end of the year. A copy of the policy update will be emailed to the electronic membership along with this newsletter. USPS mailings will get a hard copy.
