July 2017 Rep s Rambling Coos Bay Oregon State Rally Reminder - Chris & Eva Williams are hosting the Oregon State Rally this year as part of their annual Coos Bay Rally, August 24-28. A Big Thanks to Chris & Eva!!! Chapter Visits Please note the posted time for the Roseburg breakfast (Sutherlin) has been changed to 8:00 instead of 9:30. Well, so far I have made out of Portland to Hood River, Lebanon, North Coast, and now Myrtle Point. We ll see how the rest of the summer goes, now that it is finally looking more like ridin weather June 24: After getting my old helmet, CZ & I rode down to Myrtle Point to attend their Sunday breakfast. With 100+ degrees forecast it was good to get out of town early. We didn t escape all the heat, as it followed us south. We ran down the slab to Drain then took 38 out to Reedsport, then down to Coos Bay. It was only 90 in Myrtle Point when we arrived about 3:30, instead of 101 back home. But it cooled off pretty good at night. Sunday morning is was a bit foggy and 60 degrees. We had 13 at breakfast, plus the Williams kids. I guess that includes Chris. After eats, we headed up the coast to Florence then up 126 to Mapleton so CZ could get a Checkpoint. From there we wondered the back roads up 36 to Cheshire then up to Monroe and then slid over to Kings Valley Hwy, did a buttstop at Ritner Covered Bridge & soaked my head in cold water, up to Dallas then up River Road out of Keizer for a raspberry sundae at Jone s Farm, then home. It was 101 when I pulled into Wilsonville. Total mileage for the weekend 530. July 1-3: After the OC breakfast, I drove over to Yellow Pine, east of Prairie City to visit our Gypsy chapter (Mary & Steve). Long but easy drove over, took right at 6 hours. Good visit, toured to metropolis of Prairie City. Didn t want to drive on the 4 th so I came back Monday. Steve was taking his truck in for service, so we thought we would just have breakfast in Prairie City, NOT, the restaurants are closed on Monday? So, I went on to eat in John Day. Not sure what M & S did??? July 15: Woke up to clear blue sky and 50 degrees. Great day for a ride, so CZ & I headed down to Lebanon for the breakfast. It was good to see Floyd and Mikie. Toni was there as she had things to do at church. There were 6 present with 3 bikes. On the return run, we went back through Sweet Home and up forest road 11 past Green Peter dam our out to Hwy 22 just east of Marion Forks. Great ride, perfect weather!!! Request for Extra Pins (Light House) - Reminder To avoid ordering new pins (100 minimum), we are reaching out to past attendees, who may have multiple Light House Pins. If you have any extra pins, we would appreciate you donating them back to Chris. Traditionally the Light House pins were only given out to first time attendees. Each subsequent you, you received a year bar). Also, we will gladly accept any donations for door prizes. Safety Reminder So, Stay Vigilant and Safe!!! Sparkplug Reminder It would really be nice to hear from a few other members now and then. You do not have to be a local Rep to submit something. Let us know what you are doing For all newsletter information, or Web postings, please submit to David by the 20 th of each month. David s contact info is: International News UmciNewsWash@gmail.com SparkPlugEditor@gmail.com While I was unable to attend the International Rally, I understand that we now have a new International Rep, Kevin Besel, of Columbia Basin fame! I want to congratulate Kevin, and thank him for stepping up! I know Kevin really cares about UMCI and will serve us well! Silly boy, I also understand he has re-accepted the responsibilities of Washington State Rep. Kevin will take over from Richard Hentz, who plans to be RVin around the country. SO, thanks for your service to the State, Richard! And a Big Double Thanks Kevin, for steppin back to the plate for the State! I think we should clone Kevin and send copies to each state and province!!! 3

July 2017 Metro South (Milwaukie & Oregon City) News - Ben Altman June 24: Well the weekend got off to a bit of a bad start for me. Rode to the Portland breakfast. Initially it was just CZ & I, but then Dave McMillin showed up with a friend (Dale, from Sandy. Seems that Dave installed one of his trick alternators in Dale s 1200. Then N & J Broaddus showed up so we had 6 attending with 4 bikes. But that s where the good ended, seems some!#@ * stole my helmet while we were eating and bsing What an annoying event. Good thing CZ had an extra in his trike, so I could get home to get one of my old helmets. Got my other helmet, and CZ & I headed south to Myrtle Point see State Report. July 1: Nice morning, but I was headed out of town to visit Mary & Steve, so I drove to breakfast. We had 12 attending, with 6 bikes. We could almost start a motorcycle club!!! And after a long drought we had a 50/50, and Derald and I won! July 2: Denise and Bernice were up at the IBMC campout at Twisp, so we didn t have a Hood River breakfast. But CZ & I head down (in the cage) to south Salem to Sybil s Omelets. July 8: Bummer, after two good ridin weekends this morning it was drizzly wet, so it was back into the cage for the ride over to the Wichita Grill. We had just 9 of us attending this drizzle morning. No 50/50, just food and chattin. July 15: CZ & I rode down to the Lebanon breakfast, see State report July 16: No scheduled UMCI events, but CZ & I rode down to Salem for breakfast Really pleasant ridin weather! I got the replacement headset for my old helmet installed, so it was a good opportunity to check it out. Works great! Just not as good a helmet as the Nolan I lost. 320 miles was quite a long ride for me, but Don was fine at 85+. It was Awesome to see so many UMCI Friends, I missed the International last year. Don was really happy to see some people after not seeing them for a couple of years also. We did a couple of day rides with the group. Bill lead us on some really scenic roads along the Calif. Coast and through the GIANT RED WOODS. I was very impressed at how good we did as a group. Riders from all over riding together and staying in the group as a UNIT. The Food at the Banquet was Great. We have a New International Rep. Kevin from Central Washington. Kevin and Kevi are two Great People. We are very Lucky to have them. I want to Thank Dan and Stephenie for an outstanding job and their leadership over the past several years. Grants Pass is doing fine and Archie won some 50/50 money. Our meeting went well also, we had 17 people at the regular meeting, Plus Gary Shearer and Nate Lavin at the 9:30 meeting. OH CRAP SOMEONE "ME" DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT MEETING TIMES IN THE SPARKPLUG. WELL EXCUSE ME. It should be right now. 8 for Breakfast and Meeting at 9. and that is at Abby's in Sutherlin about 3/4 of a mile east of I-5 on Centeral, on the left. Thanks to Tom &Pam and the rest of the Calif. group, for a GOOD RALLY Ride and SMILE Zack We seems like the month is short, as it s time to send my reports to David next week so stay tuned South Region Hi Friends: I'm Late with my Report for the Sparkplug. Don Evernden and I left on Monday July 17 for Myers Flat, Calif. We went over to Bandon and down 101. the weather was great, We arrived at the RV Park around 4:00 PM. 4
