PROJECT SUMMARY TradE is a Youth Exchange 1.1 of the Youth in Action program, focusing on youth unemployment and creativity. It will take place in Tsakistra, a small village in Nicosia, between 27th of June and 6th of July 2014, and will gather 32 participants from Cyprus, Portugal, Italy, and Spain. It aims to explore possible ways of turning a TRADition into Employment, offering hands-on experience to traditional professions related to e.g., farming, planting, cooking etc., entrepreneurial study visits, discussions with career experts, and presentations of different practices. OBJECTIVES Get to know the traditional professions of Cyprus, Portugal, Italy, Spain Foster entrepreneurship and improve employability Creativity in turning a tradition into employment Personal development; self-confidence, realization of strengths and weaknesses Establish life-long connections and collaborations between participants Increase cross-cultural understanding and European citizenship PARTNERSHIP PlanBe, Plan it Be it (Cyprus) Vida+Viva, Associação Animam Viventem (Portugal) VulcanicaMente (Italy) Socioeducative Intercultural Service (Spain) PLANBE PlanBe is an informal group, managed by a team of youth workers based in Nicosia, Cyprus. It aims to contribute to the positive social changes in society by promoting effective communication, intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, facilitating understanding among people and establishment of harmonic coexistence. It supports young people to use and develop their capacities, and to actively participate in the construction of a united Europe to create one European platform for cooperation. EXAMPLE OF PLANNED ACTIVITIES 2

DATES AND VENUE TradE will take place partly in Nicosia city center, and partly in the village of Tsakistra between Friday, 27th of June to Sunday, 6th of July. On arrival and departure days, the venue of the project will be in Nicosia center, in order to facilitate transportation to and from the airport. For the rest of the days, the project will be hosted in Tsakistra village. Our organization will arrange the transportation between Nicosia city center and Tsakistra. Please book your tickets so that you arrive in Nicosia city center BEFORE 19.00 pm on Friday, 27th of June and depart from Nicosia AFTER 9.30 am on Sunday, 6th of July. Nicosia Tsakistra HOW TO GET TO THE VENUE FROM THE AIRPORT? You are strongly advised to book your tickets to Larnaca International Airport (LCA). Flying to Paphos International Airport is also an option but is more far and less connected with public transport to Nicosia. Please note: 1. Cyprus is not yet fully-fledged member of the Schengen area; so you will have to present a valid passport at the passport controls. 2. Any other airport in northern Cyprus is not officially recognized in the Republic of Cyprus; so tickets will not be able to be refunded by our project. From Larnaca International Airport take Kapnos Airport Shuttle to Nicosia. This route terminates at Kapnos station, Aglantzia, Nicosia. The journey is about 45 minutes and costs 8. Details for the timetable can be found here: http://www.kapnosairportshuttle.com From Paphos International Airport take Bus 613 to Paphos Karavella (Main Bus Station) and then change to the intercity bus Paphos Nicosia. The first part of the journey (Paphos airport - Paphos Karavella) is about 30 minutes, costs 1.50, and 3

the timetable can be found here: http://www.pafosbuses.com/ (note, this route runs only 2 times per day). The second part of the journey (Paphos Karavella Nicosia Solomou Square) is about 2 hours, costs 7, and the timetable can be found here: http://www.intercity-buses.com Our organization will arrange to pick you up from either Kapnos station or Solomou Square station in Nicosia and transfer you to the venue (likewise for departure). We kindly ask you to communicate your arrival and departure times as early as possible in order to arrange transportation at your best convenience. For this purpose please complete the Information of Participant form and send it to planbe.youth@gmail.com. ACCOMMODATION In Nicosia city centre, participants will be accommodated to 3-bedroom apartments, sharing a twin or triple room, kitchen and toilet/shower. In Tsakistra village, participants will be accommodated to traditional houses, sharing a twin or triple room, kitchen and toilet/shower. Towels, bed linen, and soap will be provided. Please bring your own personal toiletries. WHAT TO BRING, WHAT TO PREPARE Cultural Evening: Please arrange with your country leader and participants to bring some gastronomic specialties (food and/or drinks) from your country. It is also strongly recommended to prepare and bring some material showing your country/region/city, and the traditional (or modern) music and dances. Sports/comfortable clothes: Make sure to bring comfortable clothes and/or ones that may get dirty or destroyed during the practical workshops. 4

Traditional professions in your country: In communication with your country leader, please prepare some material to show and inform the other participants about the traditional professions in your country (or home town). Personal insurance: Insurance cover for personal effects is the responsibility of the individual participant. You are recommended to ensure that you have adequate medical and travel insurance to cover the period of your stay in Cyprus. Neither our organization nor any venue used during the event can entertain claims against loss of or damage to personal property. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION Weather: The average temperature in June July is 36 C degrees during the day and 20 C at night. Internet: Internet connection will be available at all venues of the project. However, we recommend limiting the use of internet, computers, and other electronic devices during the days of the exchange. Electricity: Cyprus has the 240 Volt/ 50 Hz 3 pin electricity plus so make sure your bring at least one adaptor with you. Cyprus Time Zone: UTC (or GMT) +2 Currency: Cyprus is part of the Euro zone. In Nicosia city center you can use your credit cards (VISA, Mastercard etc.) almost everywhere. In Tsakistra village, you are strongly advised to have some cash instead!
