John, Holly and Marie did a spectacular job working to make sure the club ran smoothly and supporting me as I learned the job. Your support means a lot to us. As this was my first year as your president, I would like reflect on the past year and give you a glimpse into the upcoming year. If I had to describe the current condition of our club with one word I would use the word vibrant. Let s start by summarizing this year s events. One Bomb Proof play day, nine trail rides, four horse shows, one junior play day, one arena work day, one Halloween costume ride, one Chili cook-off ride, three horse camping trips, one field trip to the SFPD stables, one sweet heart program, one Golden Gate Fields outing, and ten monthly meetings. We also have the junior paint ball outing, November trail ride and our December year-end party left. Wow that s a lot of fun packed into one year. In addition to these events we have managed to stay financially viable and actually have funds available for the start of next year, which assures us, that we will not have any cash flow problems as we plan our 2014 events. These events could not have been possible without the participation and help of our membership. Good job. Next year should be an even better year of this club. At our November meeting I will be passing around a survey which will have the afore mentioned events and room to add to the list. I would like to hear from you about what worked and maybe some new ideas, so please, take the time to fill-out the survey. Next year, I have a few areas that I would like to focus on. These would include safety, inclusion and more fun with more people. My goal next year is we have zero injuries to horse and rider at our events. I understand that this is a lofty goal but I think we can accomplish this with a little bit of awareness and education. Inclusion, what makes this club great is the different types of riding that happens. I would like to work toward a goal of understanding that it s OK to ride English and not do Gymkhana, endurance, western pleasure or trail ride. It s also OK to do every type of riding that is offered by our CSHA association and support one another. Our diversity is what makes us so cool. Let s embrace it and yes even revel in it. Next year I will be looking at ways to bring people together through safe events to make the club even more fun than it is today. I and the other officers are looking forward to helping you make the most out of your relationship with a horse. Enjoy your horse. Yousseff
Holiday Party & Year-End Awards The holiday party and year-end awards is scheduled for Sunday, December 8th at the Crockett Bass Club at the end of Port Street in Crockett. Dinner: Dinner will be potluck, please bring the following based on your last name. Please bring enough for your party and 8 more! Be sure to bring serving utensils! Club will provide plates, utensils and beverages. Directions: From hiway 80 East, take Crockett exit, turn left at stop light onto Pomona, in 500 feet turn left onto Wanda, at the bottom under the freeway, turn left again onto Port St. Follow around to parking lot and park. Franks Valley Campout The final club campout of the year at Franks Valley Horse Camp the weekend of Sept. 27 29 was a blast! 18 Members and guests attended with 12 horses! The weather was perfect, not too hot or too cool. Friday afternoon several early arrivals went for a short ride along Redwood Creek trail towards Muir Woods to get the lay of the land. By Friday early evening everyone has arrived and were safely tucked in. Saturday after coffee and breakfast we headed up Heather Cutoff, switch backing up to Coast Trail with views of the ocean, then down through the Redwoods to Franks Valley and along Redwood Creek with several unusual creek crossings as horses are not allowed on the bridges! Saturday late afternoon several of us decided to take a trail we passed on the way back and see where it goes! Well, Miwok trail winds up to the inland ridge, beautiful with ferns and trees. From there the Dias Ridge Trail wound along the ridge and then dropped back down to Hwy 1 across from Muir Beach. A trial we will definitely take again! Saturday night included a potluck with fantastic dishes and time spent around the campfire swapping stories! Sunday started out with a ride to Tennessee Valley beach because we thought Muir Beach was closed. However as passing through the trail head at Muir Beach we were told the beach was open, just the parking lot was closed for renovations. So we played on Muir Beach for a couple hours. Upon our return to camp most folks left for home. A few stayed over and enjoyed another evening by the campfire and came home Monday morning. It was a fantastic weekend with no problems, all the horses got on great and as I said we all had a blast! Here a just a few pics of where we rode, enjoy! September Trail Ride 10 members and guests rode on September 22nd at Contra Loma Regional Park into Black Diamond park. A huge thank you to Michael and Cathy for leading the ride! We rode up to and around the ridges and after about 2 1/2 hours we stopped at the perfect spot for lunch. We continued on from there with more fantastic views overlooking the delta returning to the trailers after approximately 4 hours total. Halloween Trail Ride & Potluck Approximatley 30 members and guests attended the ride and potluck on October 20th at Pt. Pinole. 19 rode through the park for a couple hours, several in costume! Needless to say, we got some interesting looks! The awards for best adult costume went to Yousseff and Blue as a gladiator and chariot, the best junior costume went to Taylor and Denny as Red Riding Hood and Grandma. There were several other very interesting getups! After the ride we returned to the trailers for a delicious potluck dinner with a variety of dishes. Then the fun began for the horses! They had the opportunity to bob for apples by trying to get apples on strings. So much fun watching them trying to get the apples. Page 8

Turkey Trot Trail Ride Sunday, December 1st Roll off the couch and bring your left-over turkey sandwiches on our annual Turkey Trot ride following Thanksgiving. Location and time to be announced via Facebook and emails! New High Point Program Chair! Thank you to Kendra Kywicki for volunteering to be the High Point Program Chair! Kendra will be reviewing the program and presenting possible changes/upgrades in the near future.
