Cycling Package in Corinthia 7 Days We are in a place of special natural beauty, rich in landscapes and dense forests. With sea-side paths, mountain paths with breathtaking views, monuments and archeological sites, farmland, wineries and gorges, Corinthia is an ideal destination for cycling tourism. Here you can combine your vacation with your favorite hobby, biking. There are dozens of routes where cyclists can enjoy nature, sea and the Greek province. During the tours they can visit sights, archaeological sites and other places of interest. We have prepared and we present to you a package of routes based on the area of the town of Loutraki. Starting at the town or at close distance of one hour tops, we do our daily excursions:
Day 1: Arrival Welcome to Greece! After your arrival we will be transferred to the hotel in Loutraki so that we can rest and get prepared for our excellent routes we will cycle the next days. Day 2: Loutraki area The first day we will explore the area of Loutraki. Our route starts at the monastery of Saint Patapios on the mountain next to Loutraki. It is located at an altitude of about 650 meters with the spectacular view of the Corinthian and the Saronic Gulf. Then we will ride on the bikes and head down to the village of Perachora and then to Lake Vouliagmeni. On the way, which is downhill, we will pass through olive groves and a forest of small pine trees. Then we will depart for the lighthouse of Heraion and the archaeological site of Hera. We will photograph the lighthouse, from where we have a panoramic view of the Corinthian Gulf and we can also go to the ancient findings and the small harbor. Later we will return to the lake where we can stop for coffee or a light meal. The total route is approximately 38 km and the total trip is estimated to last 6 hours. The biggest part is downhill and only two parts are inclined more than 20%.
Day 3: Corinth Canal Ancient Corinth Corinth City On the third day we will follow a route starting from Loutraki and will visit important monuments and places of interest. Our first stop is the Corinth Canal. We will stand on the central bridge at a height of 80 meters from sea-level and photograph a breathtaking spectacle. Then we will visit the archaeological site of Isthmia and the museum nearby. We will see the Temple of Poseidon and the findings of the museum. Here we can find the first stained glass ever discovered. Our route will continue to the village of Examilia through fields of vineyards, orange and olive trees. The next station is Ancient Corinth. We will visit the small village where the archaeological site and the museum are located. Ancient Corinth used to control the special location of the Canal and was the most important commercial hub of the ancient world. We will see the Temple of Apollo and the ruins of the old market. In the village square we can have lunch and relax. On the way back we will head to the new city of Corinth. We will visit its modern web and ride through shopping malls and its paved streets. On our way back we will reach the west side of the Canal and, after crossing the second submersible bridge, we will return to Loutraki and to our hotel to rest. The total route is approximately 40 km without particular altitude differences. The total duration of the trip is estimated to be approximately 7 to 8 hours.
Day 4: Nemea - Wineries The forth route will be a special experience. We will reach Nemea, known from antiquity for its games and wines. Here the ancient Greeks learned the art of grape-harvesting and wine-making and created the first wine in history. The grape variety is still the same to this day and it produces a red wine called "Agiorgitiko". We will ride bikes in the new village where we will see how the people live today. Then we will visit a winery of the area and we will walk around its premises. We will watch the production process, taste the wines and, if we want, we will have a meal with delicious dishes based on traditional recipes and of course followed by tasty wines. Later we will head to a second winery where we will be able to taste different grape varieties and flavors. Then we will ride towards the villages Koutsi and Stimanga along the vast vineyards of the Corinthian province. We will reach the seaside village of Vrachati where we will stop to rest by the sea. Here we have a different kind of scenery, and the earth products are different as well. This region is one of the most fertile ones in the country and produces oranges, lemons, apricots, grapes and much more. We will follow the whole coastal route and feel the sea breeze on our face. We will end our trip in a less organized area on the outskirts of the city of Corinth. We will see the ruins of the ancient harbor of Lechaio, an important port of Ancient Corinth. We will take our way back. The total route is approximately 40 km and its duration is estimated to be 6-7 hours. The biggest part of it is downhill, through vineyards and fields and at the end we have a route alongside the sea.
Day 5: Epidaurus Nafplio Mycenae For the fourth route of our program we will go to important monuments and places of interest. The start will be at Ancient Nemea, where we will go by bus. Here we will visit the Temple of Zeus and the stadium where the Nemean games were held. The area is also associated with legendary Hercules, who killed the lion of Nemea. Then we will ride on our bikes and after passing through Dervenakia, a place historically famous for its role during the Greek revolution, we will reach Mycenae, the kingdom of mythical Agamemnon, considered the most important and richest palace of the Late Bronze Age in Greece. We will have time to tour the place and admire the glorious history. Then we head towards picturesque Nafplion, the first capital of modern Greece. We will walk through the streets of the old town, we will see Palamidi, the castle standing just above the city, and we will photograph Bourtzi (a tiny island with a Venetian fortress on it). Here we will have lunch and enjoy a coffee. After we relax, we will depart for our last destination, which is none other than the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus. It is considered to be the finest ancient theater of Greece in terms of acoustics and aesthetics and was dedicated to Asklepios, the ancient god of health. We will board the bus and after a busy day we will be on our way back to the hotel. The total route is about 65 km and is mainly on a provincial road. There are no particular altitude variations except for the Ancient Nemea Dervenakia area, which is moderately difficult.
Day 6: Mountainous Corinthia The Tour Around Mount Ziria Mount Ziria is the highest mountain of Corinthia and the second highest mountain in the Peloponnese. It is a mountain with rich flora, lakes and running waters. We on this route will go around the main volume of the mountain where we will cross the picturesque villages and the wonderful nature. We will see the villages of the area and cross the vineyards. After a short while, the fabulous lake Stymphalia shows before us. This is where Hercules accomplished one of his labours by killing the Stymphalian birds that terrorized the village. The area is protected by NATURA 2000 and dozens of bird species find shelter here. We will visit the environmental museum next to the lake where we will learn about the lake, the fauna and how the locals used to live in the past. Then we will head to the village of Lafka, where we will start an uphill ride at the south side of Ziria. The scenery here is different and we find ourselves in a great fir-forest. We cross Kastania and in front of us we can see the plain of Feneos, an important place from antiquity. With a small detour we are able to visit the artificial Doxa Lake, with the little chapel in its center. The route is downhill and next in line is the village of Goura. We will stop at the picturesque village square and we will have some free time to rest. Then we will continue our downhill route with the final stop the village of Mesaia Trikala. On the way we will again pass through a fir-forest, while the scenery will keep changing until we reach the famous village. Here we can have a meal and then take the bus to our hotel. The total route is approximately 75 km and the whole trip is estimated to last approximately 5-6 hours. Most of it is without altitude differences and several downhill slopes. There is a 6 kilometer uphill route between the villages of Lafka and Kastania. Day 7: Departure
