We re a fairly small community (although our Parish covers quite a wide area), but we still manage to have a variety of activities. We hope the attached information leaflet will be helpful in enabling you to feel at home in your new surroundings as quickly as possible. Community Activities The Village Hall (built by local people) is available for private hire. It offers a range of facilities including stage, bar & fully equipped kitchen, seating for 150 and parking for 85 cars. You can book online, via the village website, or tel. Kay Gautry 01364 72475. New committee members are always welcome. Full details of the various activities which take place in the Hall are on the village website. These include: A Grand Plant Sale - held on the 1 st Saturday in May The Village Badminton Club - meets at 8pm on Monday at the Village Hall during the winter and every other Monday in the summer. Just turn up. Annual Garden Show & Sports on the 1 st Saturday in August where young and old can celebrate their first fruits and other skills and where everyone can have a run in the races. Local Produce Market, Post Office and Coffee Morning Tuesdays 10.00-11.15 a.m. in the village hall - outreach Post Office with full facilities and a local producers market selling a range of foodstuffs (e.g. eggs, preserves, cakes, flans, fish, bread vegetables, pork products, plants, cards and more). A chance to meet other parishioners over a cup of tea or coffee and cake. Library DCC mobile library visits village hall carpark on Tuesday 10-11.15am once every 4 weeks; Books and jigsaw puzzles are available to borrow from the Village Library in the village hall Parking If you or your visitors park on the road anywhere in the parish, please ensure there is enough width left for emergency vehicles/tractors etc. to pass at all times. Additional parking is available in the Village Green Car Park outside the Church for residents & their visitors, or if this is full, in the Village Hall car park when not in use for an organised event. Parish Council The Parish Council meets monthly (except for August & December) plus an Annual Parish meeting (April) at the Village Hall. Notice of meetings, which are all open to the public, are put on the Parish Council Noticeboard on the Village Green. If you wish to have any matters put on the Agenda, either contact the Clerk (Sharon Raggett 01364 654607), or come along to the meeting and have your say in Parishioners and Public Question time at the start of each meeting. The Parish Council also has the following active advisory sub-groups: Business and Telecomms; Highways and Drainage; Environment: Young People; Building and Land Development. You don t have to be a Council member to be part of these groups and new members are always welcome. If you have expertise/enthusiasm you d like to share in any of these groups, contact the Clerk. If you d like to know more about becoming a Parish Councillor come along to meetings to find out more - elections are held every 4 years. Preelection training courses can be arranged if sufficient numbers of people are interested.

Parish Paths There are several Public and Permissive Footpaths and unmetalled roads (which resemble Green Lanes) within the Parish. Please follow the Country Code and keep dogs under control when livestock is present. Dog owners are asked in the interests of hygiene to clear up after their pets & put it in the bin provided outside the public footpath opposite the village green (church/pub) carpark. Our volunteer Parish Paths Co-ordinator is always glad of volunteers to help with the upkeep of the paths: contact him via the Clerk 01364 644109. Playing Field Children can enjoy the slide, see-saw, swings & climbing frame in the playing field. This can be reached via Garden Park. The Parish Council are responsible for the maintenance of the equipment and grass. South Hams calendar B with grey bins (landfill) alternating with brown bins and recycling sacks. Spare recycling sacks are available in the village hall. Recycling: A glass recycling bank is in the Rattery Village Hall Carpark. White goods (old fridges etc.) can be collected by the District Council but a charge is made. The nearest recycling centre is at Babbage Road, Totnes Industrial Estate. A Tetrapak recycling bank is in the Heathfield car park in Totnes. Senior Citizens Senior Citizens Luncheon Club: is held the first Thursday of the month at the Village Hall.

Age UK has a free advice line for the elderly or their relatives, on 0800 055 6112. Lines are open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year. Soup Group A great way to meet other villagers - once a month, some-one in the village will volunteer to host a soup evening for other parishioners. Street Cleaning South Hams District Council keeps the roads & lanes clean and litter free. Parishioners are welcome to advertise their goods and services on the notice board on the left-hand side of the entrance to the village green car park. Local Farmers Markets: Buckfastleigh on Thursdays a.m.; Totnes last Saturday of the month a.m; Ivybridge 3rd Saturday of the Month a.m. Transport - First Group X80 service runs between Plymouth & Torquay and stops at Rattery Mill, Culver Lane & Marley Head. - Stagecoach s South West Falcon service operates a regular Plymouth-Exeter- Taunton-Bristol service stopping at Marley Head. - People with limited mobility can get help with transport for medical appointments, shopping etc. via Totnes Caring (01803 865684 info@totnescaring.org.uk) or South Brent and District Caring (01364 700282 info@sbadc.org.uk). - Trains run from Totnes (5 miles) Ivybridge (8 miles). Timetables for all trains from Totnes Station are available online and from 0845 484950.

Worship As of November 2018 St. Mary s Church, Rattery is one of seven churches which make up the newly formed Dart and Avon Mission Community. Team Rector is Reverend Tom Benson, and a part time Team Vicar will be appointed (from Spring/Summer 2019) whose main focus is to be Rattery and South Brent parishes. All services begin at 11.15am except for Christmas Day and Easter Sunday when the services start at 10.00am, and Remembrance Sunday 10.30am. The group is focused on early years, walking to 7/8, but is open to all children (accompanied by an adult).
