Therefore, in order to help the Committee personnel who are undertaking this task on your behalf, please do act quickly, as the cut off date for registrations will be the 15 th of August 2014. The 32 Forum sessions all have excellent presenters, who we believe are representative in their content of the modern Lions scene. Host Chairman Don & I both like to think that, as the next Australian Forum will not be held until 2017, that this forthcoming opportunity in front of you is too good to miss. Just one aspect we will have our own IP President Barry Palmer, who by then will be the Chair of LCIF. And International President Joe Preston, in the same place at the same time. will be absolutely unique. Who can tell when we, in this country, will have another Australian International President? A special function entitled Joes Party will be held on the Friday evening at the Hilton, & attendees will be able to mix with both men in a nice relaxed Aussie style which, after what we think will be an excellent opening ceremony, will set the scene for the next two days. The Saturday sessions will be very well attended &, to hear Tim Jarvis tell of his Antarctic adventures along with the four very eminent medical personnel, should too be an absolute highlight. So, our fellow Lions please do act now before it is too late, as the last thing we want to hear is, I wish I Inside this issue: Messages from Planning & Host Committee Chairmen 1 Accommodation Deadline 2 Registration 2 Pre & Post ANZI Tours 2 Visit the Lions Hearing Dogs 3 ANZI Entertainment News 4 Free Skin Cancer Screening 4 Share Accommodation 4 Committee Contact Information 4 Advance Notice Silent Auction 4 ANZI Registration Forms 5-7 had attended the Forum as from what I hear it was a terrific event. Lions Hearing Dogs provides hearing dogs & training in their use to hearing impaired people throughout Australia. Dogs & follow-up support are provided free of charge. Lions Hearing Dogs in Australia was conceived in 1980 when 2 Lions Past District Governors, attending a Lions International Convention in the USA, saw the good work of a hearing dogs training centre in Colorado. Lions Clubs of Australia agreed to support & fund a hearing dogs training centre in Australia and property at Verdun in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia was purchased. Gail Gould from the American program came out for two years to start the Lions Hearing Dog program. The first Lions hearing dog named Amber, sponsored by the Lions Club of Edwardstown was delivered in 1982 to a recipient from Adelaide. Amber died in 1995. Since 1982 the Lions Hearing Dog Centre has placed nearly 500 hearing dogs to recipients Australia wide. Most funding comes from Australian Lions clubs which, together with other donations & sponsorship, makes it possible for the centre to produce highly trained & effective hearing dogs. The Verdun facility has an executive officer, a head trainer & four trainers, an assistant trainer, a kennel manager & two kennel staff. New owners are supported by their sponsoring Lions club. The centre is on six acres that contains all the kennels & training facilities for accommodating & training the dogs. "Did you know it costs approximately $30,000 to train one dog?" Should you wish to make a donation, you or your club knows of a person needing such assistance, or wishes to sponsor a dog s training and placement, please enquire via E: hearingdogs@picknowl.com.au.
