P r e s i d e n t s L e t t e r Hello friends and riders. I hope you had a super holiday season. We have finished the 2015 year with much adventure, fun, and stories to tell. This momentum is carrying over into 2016 with the membership increasing as new friends join the Club. Thanks again to all who gave of their time and talents to make 2015 a year to remember. I hope there has not been too much dust settled on your favorite motorcycle during these cold and icy days. Maybe you have been busy adjusting your seasoned gear, applying the latest new equipment to your bike, or simply tried on your riding gear to make sure it still fits, either way hang in there for clearer roads will soon be under our tires and there are plenty of good riding suggestions in the 2016 Ride Book. This year s edition is a super example of excellent volunteer team work, creative expertise, local riding knowledge, and it has many great ideas for a wide variety of motorcycling. The riding weather forecast never hinders our weekly opportunity to gather at Red Rocks Grill in Morrison each Saturday morning for breakfast. Even on the coldest of winter days there are a group of riding friends swapping stories and gear tech news that will help keep the adventure riding spirit warmed up. Check out the Ride Book for the details of our first scheduled 2016 group ride leaving from Red Rocks Grill on April 2nd. Come join us as we head to Bent s Fort located near La Junta, CO. Regarding our monthly Club meeting site, we were told recently that our previous meeting place could not accommodate us any longer. We have located a very good facility, The Boardroom, located at 51 West Dry Creek Court in Littleton (C470 and Broadway, approximately 1-mile north on Broadway). The first meeting of the year will be on January 14, a Thursday. Beginning in February the meeting will be back on our regular schedule, the 2nd Wednesday of the month, February 10th. Our private Club meeting room is available at 5:30 pm, with the meeting starting at 6:30 pm. This month s presenter will be Craig Levens, the new General Manager of Foothills BMW. Foothills is a generous sponsor of the club s annual 100,000 Foot Ride. Craig will have lots of motorcycle stories and news to share. Thank you for your participation in making this a nationally known and very well respected BMW Motorcycle Club. Please keep sharing your ideas and talents, and as a member representing our Club so very well. I encourage us to continue to be inclusive and invite new members to join us. The BMW brand leads the way as 2016 adventures unfolds. I am grateful to be able to continue learning the skill of riding well, experiencing new adventures, and enjoying the camaraderie among us. I look forward to sharing the road with you. This will be a great year! Ride safe and keep smiling, Michael Kilgore In addition to the Club rides in the Ride Book we have been able to list the years Club Social Events. The upcoming events are listed in this newsletter as well. I look forward to seeing you at Helga s German Restaurant on January 20th to toast our Germany friends and the BMW family of riders. Winter Survival Kit Winter Driving Preparedness Compared to creating a home winter emergency kit, a car emergency kit has two principle differences. First, you re severely limited on space compared to home preparations and you burn extra gas hauling your kit around. Second, when the power goes out at your house, you re still at home safe and sound. When your car gets stuck in the middle of no where and it s 12 degrees below freezing, it s a radically worse situation that could end tragically. To become a winter car driving pro, invest in the proper tools, such as snow tires and in yourself by practicing real world skills, just like you would using your motorcycle. Be careful out there! Make sure you have the following items in your vehicle in case of an emergency: Flares/reflectors to signal for help and warn other motorists Sturdy scraper/snow brush/snow shovel to clear snow Battery or crank-powered radio to listen to emergency broadcasts Flashlight with extra batteries or crank-powered flashlight Survival blanket or sleeping bag Chemical hand warmers Extra set of clothes, including coat, hat, mittens, boots, etc. Gallon jug of water and nonperishable food First Aid Kit and essential medications Tire chains and tow strap Non-clumping kitty litter/sand for traction Jumper cables Extra cloth or paper towels for cleanup if necessary Deck of cards or board game for entertainment BMWMCC.org In the Wind 7

January 30-31, 2016 SAT 9 am-7 pm & SUN 9 am-4 pm The Colorado Motorcycle Expo is one of the largest motorcycle events in the country! It s several motorcycle events rolled into one great weekend. And best of all, everything is included for one ticket price! For additional information visit https://www.coloradomotorcycleexpo.com PERPETUAL PASSBAGGER QUEST BMWMCC members can choose to sign up for our very popular Passbagger quest. The idea is to ride to the top of a Colorado pass, have the rider and his/her bike photographed in front of the marker identifying the pass, then accumulate and submit those photographs for awards at the 50, 100, 150, or 200 pass levels. This is a perpetual self-paced program and passes may be bagged in any order with no required time limits. Once the rider achieves the target level, photographs of each pass are submitted to the Passbagger Coordinator who will then authenticate the pass completions and certify eligibility for the award. Riders may choose any passes within Colorado as long as the pass appears on a published map or book. Visit the BMWMCC website for a complete list of passes. Because the contest is perpetual and not year specific, contestants may take as long as they want or need to complete. Randy Bishop 303.284.0443 bishoprl@earthlink.net. BMWMCC.org In the Wind 9
