President Welcome It is with a great deal of pleasure that I invite all veterinarians to attend the AVA Qld Division Conference on 22-24 March 2019, Surfers Paradise, Queensland. We have a very strong continuing education program for delegates built around our international speaker, Professor. We will also be hosting many other local speakers. The theme Toxicology Threats, treatment and other toxic topics will cover both small and large animals. This annual event will be held at Surfers Paradise, an iconic Queensland location with lots to offer. All delegates that register before early bird closes go into the draw to win a Gold Coast experience for two. Winner to be announced 18 February 2019. This will be a wonderful weekend of learning and collegiality. I look forward to welcoming you to the Gold Coast. Professor Margaret Reilly Queensland Division President 3

About the AVA The AVA is the peak national body representing the Australian veterinary profession, delivering a range of services and benefits to over 9,500 members. For nearly 100 years, we ve represented Australian veterinarians nationwide. Providing members with access to continuing professional development (CPD) of the highest calibre on the latest scientific thinking is a key focus of the AVA. Our CPD program planning begins up to two years in advance to ensure it includes veterinary science and business training that is interesting, relevant and accessible, so that we maintain a highly skilled veterinary workforce. Looking ahead we will embrace new technologies to proactively assist our members with more flexible and appropriate learning outcomes. Membership is made up of veterinarians in practice, industry, government and academia. About the Queensland Division Conference The AVA Queensland State Conference will be held on the Gold Coast at the Mantra on View, Surfers Paradise, Queensland from 22-24 March 2019, commencing with the Friday night expo and welcome. This year the Queensland conference will focus on toxicology and there will be two streams, one focussed on small animals and the other on large. Toxins affect animal health in many ways and can come from the environment, food, bacteria and venomous animals. Things are a little different this year, for the first time in Queensland we bring you the Friday Night Trade Expo! The trade expo will be two and a half hours of uninterrupted time with the exhibitors. This expo will be open to all veterinary staff. We hope to see you on the Gold Coast in 2019! Fantastic deals available for attending both conferences Partnering with the Australian Cattle Veterinarians (ACV) This year the AVA Queensland Division and the ACV are having back to back conferences. The ACV Conference starts on Tuesday 19 with the Welcome Dinner and continues until Friday 22 March. The AVA Queensland Division will commence with a Trade Expo on the Friday evening, and continue over the 23 and 24 March. AVA is developing this model to benefit our delegates and our trade partners. 4

About the venue The 2019 Queensland Division Conference will be held at the Mantra on View at the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise. The Mantra on View is located a short 150m stroll to the world-renowned Surfers Paradise beach and close to the light rail. And don t miss a trip into the subtropical hinterland for rainforest walks and waterfalls.
