Meanwood Community Leadership Team The Community Leadership Team is for local ward councillors and Meanwood tenants and residents who are actively involved within their community, for example school governors, children centre advisory boards, good neighbours/ elderly action group boards, youth/school councils, tenant and resident associations etc. There will only be 4 meetings a year, which will be held locally within Meanwood. There will be a standard agenda for these meetings which will include the local Neighbourhood Improvement Plan which identified areas for improvement within a neighbourhood and changes services or puts in place projects to improve these aspects. This puts you, the residents, in the driving seat of local decision making and monitoring of services. Other items at these meetings will be decided by you, the members of the CLT, for example improved school attendance, less young people not in employment, education or training, less crime and greater community pride. The discussions will aim to improve the effectiveness of local services, issues, priorities etc and will then discuss appropriate action. If there is a specific issue regarding a service, the next meeting will be focused around that service/issue and a representative will be invited along to the next meeting. This will also improve links and relationships between service providers and residents. Discussions from the CLT will help in monitoring the Neighbourhood Improvement Plan and helping provide ideas and new work areas which can help reduce some of the inequalities within some of our communities. The idea is that no one knows an area like the people who live there and they know best how to solve the issues. If we can get local services and local people working together then we can potentially bring about massive improvements in where you live. The CLT will report into the Inner North East Area Committee which is a delegated committee of Leeds City Council and provides a direct link between neighbourhood and city wide decision making. It is an exciting opportunity for the right person. If you are interested, in getting involved please contact Steve Lake on 0113 3367634 or e-mail on steve.lake@leeds.gov.uk and he will get back to you with a simple application form and help and advice on completing this. Less Crime in Meanwood A big thank you to Howie Milner and his team at West Yorkshire Police for the current success of operation Bewhisker and Bowfin. These are partnership operations put together in the hope of reducing crime and anti social behaviour in the Miles Hills and Potternewton area of Meanwood. It is with great pleasure that I can share with all residents that up to press these operations have been successful; currently crime has been reduced by 14% in the area and Anti Social Behaviour by a whopping 48%. I urge you to pass on this great news to fellow friends and neighbours and encourage this positive work by all involved. The Voice is published by Carr Manor High School.
