H K NEWSLETTER Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Hong Kong) DECEMBER 2015 Congratulations to Ir Dr Vincent Ho on appointment as IOSH Vice- President Ir Dr Vincent Ho of our Hong Kong Branch was appointed as a Vice-President of IOSH for a three-year term at the 13th Annual General Meeting of IOSH on 3 November 2015. Vincent had previously served on the IOSH Council for six years, and as the Chairman of IOSH Hong Kong in 2007/2008. Vincent currently works for MTR Corporation Limited overseeing safety governance for MTR businesses in Mainland China, Europe and Australia. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Chartered Fellow of IOSH, and a Fellow of IMechE, CILT, and HKIE. With more IOSH members involving with business in Asia (particularly China), or working with other companies with business in Asia, the cross-fertilisation of knowledge and experience between IOSH and Asia network would be a win-win for members to expand our horizon. Occupational Safety and Health Visit to HY/2011/09, HZMB Hong Kong Link Road On 26 September 2015, a technical visit was arranged to HY/2011/09, HZMB Hong Kong Link Road. The section of Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) serves to connect the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge (HZMB) at the HKSAR boundary and the portal of the Scenic Hill Tunnel at the Hong Kong International Airport Island. The section of HKLR is basically a dual 3-lane carriageway in the form of viaduct of approximately 9.4km in length over the open sea and also partially on the Airport Island. The project involves a variety of challenges, marine conditions, navigation requirements, airport height restriction, logistics, noise, ecological and cultural heritage, etc. In the visit, Ms C S Ma, QSE Manager of Dragages-China Harbour-VSL Joint Venture introduced the participants the safety precautions and the PPE used in the project, including the way of inspecting the life jacket before the visit followed with how the project team overcome these challenges by sustainable project management, advanced design, and specialized construction methods throughout the visit. The Visit was deeply impressed by the participants. Occupational Safety and Health Seminar on Successful Cases in Application for Chartered Membership of IOSH through Mentoring Programme A seminar of Successful cases in Application of Chartered Membership of IOSH through Monitoring Programme was held at Construction Industry Resource Centre of Construction Industry Council on 13 Oct 2015. Three speakers Ir Richard Tse, Mentor, Mr K C Kwok and Mr C H Lam, Mentees newly upgraded to CMIOSH, shared their first-hand experience in completing the Initial Professional Development (IPD) Scheme, the core requirements for the Chartered membership, together with their personal tips how to get the success. Ir Richard Tse shared his personal experience and advice for those who wanted to embark on CMIOSH process. The seminar attracted most Graduate members of IOSH particularly. IOSH Networks Conference 2015 in UK IOSH Networks Conference was held on 3 and 4 November 2015 together with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of IOSH on 3 November 2015 at Chesford Grange, Kenilworth, Nr Warwick CV8 2LD. CILTHK 2-day Course - Law of Contract This is the 13th consecutive year of 2-day course organised by the Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK). IOSH Hong Kong was the co-organiser of the course. The aim of the seminar was to introduce fundamental information in respect of law of contract to the audience.
