PROVINCIAL REPORT RICK & IRENE EVANS Is this summer ever going to end? Let s hope not the riding has been GREAT! It sounds as though the flags ride was once again well attended. A few UMCI members helped out with the greeting of the riders at the finish in Nelson, BC. Mark & Willy Prior, Marg Lang, Ann Odell and Peter Rodland came out to help. Thanks for that, Irene & I had planned on being there as well but we had a flooded apartment that we needed to take care of, not a nice greeting after being gone for the summer. We returned home soon after we got word. Our Provincial Rally that has been held in Osoyoos for the past years is moving back to Cache Creek where we have held the North meets south for a lot of years. It will still be held on the Victoria weekend in May as usual. It was our hope years ago that we would attract more attendance by being closer to the border and also a better chance of great weather. Neither thing happened. After talking with a lot of members as to the reasons for not attending and realizing most preferred the Cache Creek location we contacted the Brookside RV Campsite in Cache Creek and they were very pleased to hear that we were returning. There is NO easy fix for poor attendance but we will try and make it a fun Rally to attend, after all it is your club. We are selling off the club trailer that you have all seen and used over the years. It has been a lot of fun organizing and cooking the meals, but those days are GONE. There are NO new members stepping up and helping out and those that have helped with the cooking over the years have dwindled down to just a few. Having meals, if necessary, catering seems to be the answer. It s going to be BC s turn to host the International in 05. In the past year or so Irene & I have been scouting around for a location. Some have looked not bad until we looked at the big picture as to accommodations around for non-tent users and the ease of having a meal or two catered. After looking at where Rallies have been held in BC in the past we noticed that they were mostly always held in the southern half of the province. The one place that we are looking at is MILE ZERO of the Alaska Highway (Dawson Creek, BC ). For a few it may be a great opportunity to plan an Alaska trip after the Rally. It would make a great resting spot for your upcoming trip further North. We do have a few years before we make the commitment so we look forward to all your comments. Oh and yes Irene & I are planning a trip to Alaska again. Twice is definitely not enough. You could consider Yellowknife, NWT or Dawson City, Yukon as well! Both great places to visit.
