The 12 th SABA Islamic amily Camp riday September 10 th - Sunday September 12 th, 2010 Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, BIG SUR STATION #1, Big Sur CA 93920 SABA Islamic Center organizes amily Camping Trips to have fun with friends and family, appreciate and enjoy the natural environment as well as community bonding in an Islamic environment. Where: The park is located 26 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1. Highway 1 goes through the park and our campground is located 0.8 miles north of the main park entrance. The journey will take about 2.5 hours from SABA Center in San Jose. Parking is available along Highway 1 and the campground is located a walking distance from the parking. The address for the main park entrance is 47225 Highway 1 Big Sur, CA 93920. Arrive at the campsite after 2:00pm on riday September 10th. When: riday September 10 th : Check in after 2:00pm, Dinner, Poetry & Celebrations. urday September 11 th : un Activities, Discussions, Campfire, and Celebrations. Sunday September 12 th : ore un Activities. Check Out before 11am. What are we going to do? Pfeiffer Big Sur is one of the most beautiful state parks. The park features redwoods, conifers, oaks, sycamores, cottonwoods, maples, alders and willows - plus open meadows. Wildlife includes black-tail deer, gray squirrels, raccoons, skunks, and birds, such as water ouzels and belted kingfishers. There are beautiful scenic trails. Our campsites are along the Big Sur River. We will enjoy hiking to the ocean and another trail with panoramic view of the Big Sur valley, playing volleyball and soccer, swimming in the river. There will be recitation of different supplications, prayers, and short speeches and campfire. ood: Halal fresh food will be prepared and served throughout the camp. Dinner will be served on riday, breakfast, lunch & dinner will be served on urday, and breakfast will be served on Sunday. What to bring: This is a campground and you need to bring your own tent. While the weather is expected to be warm enough during the night that most people will be comfortable with blankets, sleeping bag is recommended. You should also bring casual and warm clothing, flashlights with fresh batteries, bug/mosquito repellent lotionpray, sunscreen, personal hygiene (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.), tennis shoes, hiking shoes, hat, swimming suits/towels, rain gear (just in case!), folding chairs and throw rugs, camera, sports gears, badminton rackets and shuttlecock, inner tubes for pool area, phone calling cards. REGISTER IEDIATELY TO AVOID DISAPPOINTENT!!! How to Register for the Camp: Camp registration is done on a first-come first-serve basis and will stop after full capacity is reached. Cost and Cancellation Policy: Please see the table below for the camp cost and cancelation policy. Refund checks will be mailed after the camp and no later than October 15, 2010. Camp is organized by volunteers for the enjoyment of SABA members and their families. Our primary goal is to make this trip a lot of fun and cheap, and we do our best to keep the cost as low as possible. SABA does not intend to make any monitory profit nor incur any loss for holding the camp. To make it affordable for all families, Camp ees are subsidized. Please donate generously to help SABA with camp expenses. You need to bring your own tent, sleeping bag/blanket, etc. The only building on site is restrooms. The restrooms are clean and there are sinks and electricity in the restrooms. There is also drinking tap water. Each person is responsible for his/her own tent but you can group with your family or friends and stay in one tent. If you need special accommodation or have special medical conditions, please consult us in advance. There are lodging options in the vicinity and you can choose to stay at those lodges at your own cost. SABA does not provide any service in this regard. If you choose to stay in one of the lodges you would still need to register for the camp at the full price. No one is being paid for helping with the camp services. That s why the camp fees are affordable for everyone. Camp participants are encouraged to volunteer and help with the camp services. SABA Camping Rules & Regulations You must agree to the following rules to attend the camp: 1. Everyone is expected to make a sincere effort to make this camping event memorable for the kids and families. No one may disturb peace or behave in a way to endanger safety of anyone in the camp. 2. Everyone is expected to strictly observe Islamic Etiquettes and Rules. Both ladies and gentlemen are required to observe Islamic Hijab and dress code at all times. 3. No smoking is allowed throughout the camp. 4. No firecrackers, paint ball, BB gun, alcohol, or firearm is allowed on the camp. 5. Please contact the organizing committee if you have any complaint or suggestion. Please do not take any action yourself and inform the organizers first. 6. Upon arrival you need to register with the camp organizers. You may not leave the camp or go out for a private trip without informing the camp organizers. 7. Do not create any fires in the camp or in the surrounding forest yourself due to the danger of forest fires. There will be a campfire organized every evening for everyone. Please make sure that you and your children do not play with matches or fire in the camp. 8. Everyone UST comply with the Quiet time requirements as instructed by camp organizers. 9. Everyone is required to attend prayers and main gathering events. 10. Anyone below 18 UST be accompanied by at least one parent. 11. Participants have to follow all the rules and regulations of PEIER BIG SUR State Park. 12. All parents are responsible for any damage (breaking, graffiti) caused by their youth/kids inside or around the camp property.
