WELCOME TO THE MUSIC HALL Centrally located in the Upper King Street area of Historic Downtown Charleston, the Charleston Music Hall is an outstanding venue for corporate functions. Combine this with popular shopping destinations, museums, and three public parking garages located within two blocks of the venue and you get the perfect Charleston setting for any event. Steeped in history, the Charleston Music Hall is one of the oldest buildings on the block. It was originally named The Tower Depot and was designed by Charleston architect Edward C. Jones and built between 1849 and 1850. The Gothic Revival style building originally had a three-story tower, which projected into John Street and served as the main entrance for a passenger depot for the South Carolina Railroad. The original tower was destroyed in the earthquake of 1886 and subsequently, The Tower Depot became part of the Charleston Bagging & Manufacturing Company plant and was used as a warehouse for many years. Finally, in 1995 the Bennett-Hofford Company facilitated the Hall s amazing transformation into an arts venue. They created a first class performance space that retained its original historical Charlestonstyle aesthetic. Since opening its doors, the Music Hall has hosted a myriad of acts including top performers such as, David Byrne and Joan Baez, and everything from Jazz to Ballet to Theatre. This versatile space combines historical elegance with modern functionality.
