This will be my last mag, after 9 odd years it s time for someone else to take the reins. Please give your support to Jess like you have given to me over the years, and I look forward to seeing a fresh new looking mag next year. Remember that January is a holiday for the editor so your next edition will be February. Thanks to everyone for sending through some of the best winch challenge pics I have seen, and so many of them! I hope you enjoy all 16 pages of them :-) For me, Xmas is the time of year for reflection. Its been a rough one for a lot of people, including us, so bring on 2019!!!! Also time to remember that the festive season is difficult for some what can you do to brighten someone s day? A challenge for each of you to go that extra step and put a smile on someone s face.. Random acts of kindness please daily! I wish you all a safe, merry and wonderful Xmas and New Year. Signing off. Jenny Club Rep Northern Zone NZ4WD Page 2
Presidents Report Just a few lines from me this month. I see the NZ4WDA has come out with a Health and Safety plan guidelines free to download from there website http://www.nzfwda.org.nz/healthandsafety just in case you did not receive it get it from the above address. Sorry to have to postpone the trip out to Clevedon last weekend, but the weather was not playing ball which is not to unusual for this time of the year. We will see what we can do early next year. Great to catch up with everyone out at the winch challenge, from what I was able to see and the feedback I had, it seemed like it was a great event. Anyway, as usual this time of the year I remind you, don t be the one to show up to Januarys club meeting and if you do, Don t tell anyone, cause if you do tell someone well you what happens next. For those going away on the club Christmas trip stay safe have a great time and remember you are representing the club. I m having a stay-cation this year and do sincerely hope to see you back in the chair February. Bernie. December 2018 Page 3

Captain s Corner Hi All Well another winch challenge done and dusted. I am pleased to say it went very well. Overall I think the competitors enjoyed the event. Congratulations to all those that took part. Unfortunately, we did not bring home the trophies this year. A big thank you to all the marshals, recovery people, medical people, scorers, photographers and those that helped with the peg outs, especially Peter Haigh and Gavin Campbell, who were the chief stage setters. Holding a winch challenge is a lot of work and only possible with the help of all those above. Also during the month there was a trip to Waiuku Forest and I am looking forward to hearing tales of what occurred there. Unfortunately, the trip out to Ness Valley was cancelled on the recommendation of the property owner. I say unfortunately but secretly I was relieved as having a weekend at home has been very relaxing indeed. Coming up we have the Christmas Party at Gav s place this coming weekend and the annual Christmas/New Year s trip around the lower North Island. I know Tony Woodhill has put in a lot of though and planning into this trip. As this will be my last report for 2018 I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Gibbo December 2018 Page 5

Waiuku Forest trip report Broken the drought our first trip out for at least 6 months due to a busy year. we arrived to 14 other trucks waiting and another turned up just after we arrived 16 in total. With a safety brief and a chat the adventure begins. We started on the south block beside the mighty Waikato river. After deflating tyres ready to attack the terrain Mike gets a call over the radio from one of the trucks can t go lost me keys. (Not us)we get out and search the terrain for him to find the key in his bag on the passenger seat. ( ) award. Days young. We head off. Mike decides we need to be woken up so takes a left turn down a great drop off probably heading towards a grade 3 excellent. With this a smile came across my face nice challenge. After we all slipped and slided to the bottom. We grouped up and proceed around the tracks. Wendy Clow Page 22
