Regional Group #27 September 2018 Volume 49 Issue 9 Good Guys 32nd West Coast Nationals 2018 Story/Photos By Steve McClain S o, I was lying in bed that late August Saturday morning a little after 5:00 AM wondering if I should get up and hit the road for the Goodguys Event in Pleasanton, when I hear a text come through on my phone in the other room. So, I get up and check it out, it s Mike Buegeleisen, he is already on the road to P-Town so I decide to get dressed and hit the road. It was still pretty dark out and I have never properly adjusted the headlights on the truck, so with one headlight pointing down to the right and the other one up in the air to the left, I hit the local Starbucks and then headed south. The last time I drove over Lakeville Hwy in the dark with very poor lighting, it was pretty scary, luckily this time it was barely starting to get light, so I tucked In This Issue Good Guys West Coast Nationals 2018... Page 2 From The President: oy, it really feels like the weather B has turned with cool days and cooler nights. However, that sure makes for good driving weather. Not that many events are scheduled for September but I hope everyone is taking advantage of the weather and getting those Fords out on the road. You might consider showing up at one of the Cars and Caffeine Sundays listed in the newsletter. And speaking about getting on the road, we ve been getting a few reports and pictures from our club members on the Montana tour. It looks and sounds like everyone s having a good time. It s all gone well although they did have some rain. While it may have soaked the cars, it didn t seem to dampen their spirits. I guess they also had to make alternate plans one day due to smoke from nearby wildfires. I m sure we ll hear a lot of war stories when they return. My son and I have found a little time to work on the 46 Ford Tudor so we re making progress on the brakes, although slowly. I ve also decided to bite the bullet and install an electronic ignition on the 53 Ford. I guess I m getting tired of adjusting points and installing points and condensers. We ll see how that goes. Finally, most of you have already heard this, but for those who missed the last meeting, the Board has decided to give a one-time gift of $500 to each of the high schools that we ve identified as having an automotive shop. The funds are to be used to buy equipment for their shops. At our August membership meeting, we learned that one other high school in the area has an auto shop so the Board will be looking into that. That s it for now. See you at the September membership meeting. John Girman Minutes of General Meeting Tuesday August 14, 2018 The Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President John Girman. The Pledge of Allegiance was observed. The Minutes of Meeting: The minutes from the July meeting were approved as reported in the last newsletter. Members in attendance tonight: 47 Treasurer s Report: Brian Clary presented the monthly treasurer s report. New Members and Guests: Lynn and Steve Mannweiler own a 1930 Ford Model A 5 window coupe Birthdays: August birthdays were celebrated. Steve Bowker was the August Birthday winner. Old Business: The Board continued a discussion of the Scholarship fund disbursements and identified 4 High School Auto shop programs to make a one-time gift of $500.00 each. These are Petaluma, Healdsburg, Maria Carrillo and Santa Rosa High Schools. It was brought to John s attention that Windsor High School also has an Auto shop program and should also receive a scholarship. The addition of a Windsor scholarship will be discussed at the next Board meeting. New Business: Mike Buegeleisen said that more clothing will be ordered soon. He has in stock a few shirts and sweatshirts. See him if you are interested. John Girman acknowledged Dave Wyss as our newest author. He has an article in the latest V8 Times on Ford Tractors. All V8 times (from 1965 2014) will be available on a thumb drive soon. No official pricing yet, but somewhere around $20.00. Continued on Page 6

Good Guys 2018 continued from Page 1 Page 3 in behind a SUV and motored on through. Once I got to Pleasanton and into the Fairgrounds, Mike had saved room for me which was much appreciated. After cleaning all the bugs off the truck, we headed to the swap meet, then the car corral, not that I am looking for anything new, but you never know. I made a few laps around the grounds and ran into quite a few people I know. I stopped and visited with Brandon Flaner who had brought down the 57 Ford pickup that he has been working on for a while. The weather was almost perfect, a little on the warm side, but not unbearable. After a fun day of checking out Hot Rods and visiting with friends I headed home a little earlier than most as I hate the traffic getting out of the East Bay in the late afternoon. Here are a few pictures of some of my favorites.
