Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Best wishes to all of you, from the Collins family, for the new year. I would like to congratulate the new Executive on their election win. I wish them all the best for this year. I would also like to thank the outgoing Executive for their time and effort in supporting our Chapter Patrick, Gaby and Mik. I appreciate all that they have done for the Chapter. Before the holiday season started, Mackie Harley-Davidson was busy collecting toys and food at their store for Aisling Discoveries. This holiday, there were a lot of happy children and families able to celebrate. I would like to thank Stephanie, Dean, the Mackie Harley-Davidson staff and customers for their contributions. Our Chapter Christmas party was an enjoyable event. Annie and Patrick organized a fun night filled with lots of door prizes. Congratulations to all of the door prize winners. I would also like to congratulate Dave Vella on winning the Mystery Prize of $1,200 from Mackie Harley-Davidson. Happy shopping! Also, congratulations to Bob Barkey on winning the 50/50 draw. Arnie, Nick and I attended a HOG Director s meeting in December. There we learned about HOG s zero alcohol tolerance policy on rides. The way it was explained to us is that any alcohol consumed during a HOG related event, eliminates any insurance liability you have with HOG. Also, if you want to plan ahead, the Provincial Rally this year will be held in Windsor from July 26-28 th. The National Rally is in Moncton, New Brunswick from August 9-11 th. The January Bike Show is the 6 8 th of this month. I appreciate those members who are entering their bikes to display at our Chapter booth. I also would like to thank those members who are volunteering their time to work in the booth during the show, setting up and tearing down the booth. As your former Director, I thank all of you for your support and good times over the past 2 years. It was an enjoyable experience. I encourage any members considering an Executive position to get involved. It is a rewarding experience. Ted Collins Past Director Public Relations Officer

P A G E 2 Men s Night Out Nov. 17 th was men s night out at Mackie s with food, refreshments and cigars. A pretty good showing by Scarborough Hog, attended by Dave, Teddy, Al, Arnie, Wayne, Pat and myself for what turned out to be a nice sized crowd. Mackie s did a good job ( as always ) with plenty of staff on hand to help those who had started their Christmas shopping. Thanks to Stephanie for keeping it organized and who probably thanked everybody at least a few times each, she wasn t sure if they were leaving or just going out to enjoy that cigar. Whishing the Membership a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Hope to see you all at the Bike Show. Nick. Directors Comments:

October Demo Ride at Mackie s P A G E 3 Our chapter had a very good turn out to help out for the October demo ride at Mackie s. Thanks to Mik, Bob Burke, Armando, Arnie, Darrell, AL, Wayne, Dave, Marshall and John Archer. Also thanks to both Corry and Bob Barkey for coming out for some chapter support as well. Obviously the demo ride had an affect on Al. Congratulation for the new addition to the family, a new 2012 black Dyna Swichback, enjoy! Thanks to Dean Mackie for a classy move at the December General Meeting. He won both the Piggy Pot and 50/50 draws and then donated them back. Or was it Cindy that made him do it? Anyways, really nice of them. As news editor, I need the Chapter members help in gathering enough content to fill a news letter. Poor Mik would have to plead for stories and photos at most meetings and I m afraid I may have to do the same. I d like to get a news letter out every two months and wouldn't even mind each month, providing enough info comes in. I will not be at every ride or event to be able to write about them. Anyone on any given ride could send me a short blurb and an attached photo for some interesting reads for the rest of us. We have some members that do several rides in the States and even some International trips. I m sure the rest of the Chapter would like to read and see photo s of those. I would like to thank the following for contributing to this issue of the news letter. Teddy, Nick, Bob and Annie, Darrell, Sarah, Dave, Stephanie from Mackies, as well as Patrick for printing out the hard copies. Phill

P A G E 4 Bob and Annie s Pennsylvania Plant Tour Harley Davidson Factory Tours; Vehicle Operations Plant, York, Pennsylvania Established as an assembly facility in 1973, Harley-Davidson Vehicle Operations in York, PA. assembles the Touring, Softail and Trike models, as well as limited production, factory-custom motorcycles. They perform a variety of manufacturing operations - making parts like fuel tanks, frames and fenders. Tour schedule is subject to change. Production is not always scheduled on Friday. Please call 1-877-883-1450 for up-to-date tour information. Annie and I left Tuesday August 2 at 8am for the Plant Tour in York PA. The weather was great and the delay at the Buffalo Border Crossing was minimal. I had used the HD Ride Planner (http://www.harley-davidson.com) and if you haven t tried this tool for trip planning it is great. You can completely plan your ride on line and download the trip to your GPS. Just don t forget to bring your HOG Touring Handbook; paper maps seldom fail. We planned on making the 450 mile (724km) trip in one day. We planned a lunch stop in Painted Post NY and a visit to American Twin HD for the usual t-shirts. The Harley dealer recommended Jelly Beans restaurant for lunch so we tried it out and it wasn t bad. The riding from South of Buffalo to Painted Post was pretty good; two lane roads and some really nice little towns. We stopped in one small town for a break and met an interesting motorcycle rider from Australia who was visiting the area. The riding and scenery from Painted Post NY, going south through Pennsylvania just got better and better. Riding through the Appalachian Mountains in some spots is spectacular almost breath taking. Pennsylvania has no helmet laws and riding without a helmet really adds to the whole rebel/ freedom feeling. With the gas & break stops, a few road constructions spots and a couple of detours we still managed to check-in at our Best Western by 8:30 that evening giving us time for dinner and a couple of beers at TGI Fridays. I m glad we could walk from the Motel to the restaurant. Next day the Plant Tour Harley Davidson knows how to treat their customers. They set-up an educational and informative tour of the Plant, you can ask questions and they do their best to answer them, the tour guides are well informed. The Plant itself is very impressive, very clean and very well laid out. There is a lot of automation that moves parts around and the tour people have to watch out for the automatic carts moving around the plant. We started the tour on one side of the plant with fenders being stamped out and ended on the other side with finished bikes being crated for shipping, in between was painting, assembly and testing. The whole tour last about an hour and then you are luckily funneled into the gift shop; we only left a $100 there. Con t.

Continued. P A G E 5 We visited Laugerman s HD in York after the Plant Tour and they have a nice little Museum in the dealership, I saved a few dollars this time because they didn t have any muscle shirts (I liked) at this time of year. We left York and headed home, we planned to ride to Williamsport, PA and a visit to Horsepower HD but we could not find it. The address I had from the Ride Planner was the same as the address in the local phone book and my GPS said we were there but the dealer wasn t; we were tired and it was Miller Time. Final day; the ride home. We left Williamsport with some rain gear on and did run into a little rain, by the time we got to NY State the sun was out and the helmets were on. We stopped at Buffalo HD and left some of the money we saved by not finding Horsepower HD so I guess it all worked out in the end. I would recommend the trip to York, once you get past Buffalo (and I like Buffalo) there is some spectacular scenery, very nice roads and the Plant Tour was great. Bob Burke Photo s and report on how our booth does at the bike show will be made in the next news letter issue.

PAGE 6 Darrell s Vancouver Day When I was in Vancouver for a business trip in late October, I went over to the Harley Dealer because someone from the convention told me they have a museum with a lot of old Harley bikes. Did they ever. Here are some of them. I spent over three and a half hours there looking at them. It was such a remarkable experience. If you ever get to Vancouver, take the time and look. I had a great time. Please Enjoy!

Sarah s Membership Report Since the October membership renewals, we have a total of 42 members in the Scarborough Chapter. P A G E 7 If you know someone interested in joining the Chapter, they first must have an International HOG number. Even if the person is not a licensed rider, they can still get an International HOG number as an Associate member. Once you receive this International HOG number, let me know and I can give you the Chapter membership paperwork to fill out. I would like to congratulate the following Chapter members who received their Anniversary Pins at the Christmas Party. 15 year Anniversary Pin Warren Caines 10 year Anniversary Pin Claudette Armstrong, Don Broomfield and Corry Vanderhyden 5 year Anniversary Pin - Bob Barkey, Gaby Fuessel, Dennis Gibbons, Dean Mackie and Phil Tsolakis If you were unable to attend the party, you will receive your Anniversary Pin at the next general meeting. I wish all of the Chapter members all the best for the new year. Sarah Collins Membership Officer

P A G E 8 Christmas Party On December 10 / 11 was the Scarborough Chapter s Christmas party. We held it Sister s Restaurant as in past years and everyone had a great time (or I didn t hear otherwise). We had the DJ we had two years ago, Brian Dorsey and his choice in music was great. There was lots of dancing to work off all the appetizers and a very good meal. Everyone mingled and it was nice to see people that we don t see very often and members of their family. Dean dropped in quickly to buy a round of drinks and then had the Durham party to go to and his own Mackie party. Busy night for him, Congratulations to Dave Vella who won the Mystery Prize ( $1200.00) this year. We missed those of you who could not attend. It was a lot of fun. The attendance was up from last year so that was great. I hope you enjoy the pictures Dave took. So as we wrap up another year, I would like to thank everyone who attended the party and look forward not only to our next event, but to a great riding season for 2012. Thanks. Annie PS. Gotta love how biker dudes clean up for a party.

P A G E 11 Dean Mackie and the Mackie H-D staff are honoured to receive the 2011 Diamond Dealer Excellence Award for the second year in a row. Thank you to all of our customers who have made this past year so successful for us. This was our first year participating in the Movember fundraiser this last November. We raised approximately $2,000 for the cause. Harley-Davidson Canada raised a whopping $92,000! Kudos to all of our employees and all of our customers who grew a moustache over November It paid off. To tie into the month of Movember, we decided to host a Men s Night Out. We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback and overall enthusiasm we had after the event. Our friends from Victory Cigars and Buster Rhinos made the evening that much more memorable. We look forward to hosting this event again next year! This year s Xmas Open House at Mackie H-D was an overwhelming success. Santa Claus and our talented face painter were just some of the highlights. We also collected a box full of unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items for Aisling Discoveries! Thank you to all who donated.
