The Megaphone Ulysses Club Darling Downs Branch July 2012 Mailing address:- P.O. Box 1714 Toowoomba Q 4350 Hello again, it seems the rain and cold have kept a lot of us off the roads lately but hopefully that is about to change with some lovely sunny days at the moment. The Wobblers have been doing some interesting rides lately and always seem to be blessed with good weather! Thanks for the ride reports fellas... couldn't resist putting in my two bobs worth though! Sadly we lost a much loved member this month and Kerry has kindly written a piece about Huggie for this edition of the Megaphone. Thanks to you, Kerry. If you're looking for a ride on 10-12th August you might be interested in the Valley Rally at the Kilcoy Showgrounds, hosted by the Glasshouse Mountains Branch. Our next ride is the interbranch ride next Sunday 5th August. It should be a good day and I hope to see you there. Linda
PRESIDENTS REPORT The passing of Huggie Bear (William Stark) has taken us all by surprise. Huggie was looking good and starting to live again after his accident a couple of years ago but it was not to be. Huggie died suddenly at home on the 16th July of a heart attack. We will miss Huggie and his favourite saying Harleys Rule We had a successful meeting this month with the new committee settling in very well. I think they enjoyed the experience. Don has been working hard on the ride calendar and says it won t, shouldn t change. (Much). We are still looking for suggestions for our Christmas Party. We are thinking of a Hotel somewhere reasonably close where we can have rooms and camping. If you come up with any ideas contact Don. We hope to finalise it at the next meeting. The Go Kart ride was success with 7 members turning up on a very bleak morning but fun was had by all. We are looking forward to the interbranch run on the 5th August. It will be good to meet up with other branches. The cost will be $5.00 for a hamburger and soft drink. 5 of our advertisers have come on board again this year. So please try and support them whenever possible. You will see their ad s throughout the Megephone. Please remember if you are unable to make the weekend rides there is always the Wobblers on a Wednesday or the coffee morning on the 2nd Saturday of the month or just come to the social meeting, relax and enjoy the company. Cheers for now and ride safe. Kerry (K1)

RIDE REPORT NANANGO GO CARTS - 15/7/12 Good ride on a fine Sunday. Those that went had a great day riding & go carting. Stopping at Cooyar before heading off to Yarraman for a cuppa & a regroup, I went the right way with John, everyone else took the scenic road past the Palms, before heading to Nanango to test our go cart skills against the local lads. They won, but only after we enjoyed the great friendship shown by the locals. John scored the best lap time of 1min which wasn't far outside the local lads' best time of 55 secs. Then off to Maidenwell cafe for a very good lunch and tall tails about the days racing ( on the track). We headed for our homes in all directions about 2pm after a great Ulysses day. Regards Chris Turl. Oakey. A few Dates to remember. Valley Rally 10-12 August 2012 Blues Rally 21-22-23rd September 2012 Bikes Thru A Bar 12-14th October 2012 Thunder Rolls Rally 19-20-21 October 2012
HUGGIE BEAR William Stark or Huggie Bear as we know him was laid to rest in style yesterday with over 400 people attending his funeral. Huggie was a much loved and talented person. I have known Huggie for about 10years now but only in the Bike world. When you sit and listen to a persons life story it is very interesting to find our exactly who they are and what they have done in life. Huggie grew up on a farm outside Oakey. After leaving school he worked hard at a number of jobs and was always known for doing the job well and was very fussy that everything was done right. He loved his family especially his children and once he was your friend you had a friend for life. He worked hard for charity and I remember him from years back organizing the Toy Runs here in Toowoomba. People from all walks of life attended his funeral. From work mates, friends, riders from all different bike groups, and friends from the church. We had 15 Ulyssians attend and with the other bikers we provided an escort for the motorcycle hearse. Huggie was just starting to get his life back on track after the accident 5 year ago. He had bought a house, had meet his girlfriend Precilla and even had a passport as he was planning a trip overseas but none of this was to last long as he died of a Heart attack on the 16th July 2012. Rest in peace Huggie. Kerry (K1)
RIDE REPORT Wobblers check out Bony Mountain Four Wobblers set off on Wednesday 25th July with a goal to check out the location for the Bikes Thru a Bar event to be held at Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve in October. Led by Pat Giles, they headed down the back road towards Warwick and turned off halfway along to Massie, then Cunningham. They were expecting to find a pub but it was nowhere to be found... so eventually they asked a local and discovered that the Bar is a clubhouse in the Reserve, not a pub at all! After finding the location, they continued on to Patton, then Leyburn for lunch. The trip home was via Tummaville, Yandilla and Pittsworth. An enjoyable ride on a good sunny day and... mission accomplished! as told to Linda by Pat
