Forthcoming events FINZEAN FAMILY FUN DAY: SUNDAY 3 JUNE The Finzean Family Fun Day 2018 and Primary School Football Tournament will take place on Sunday 3 June (start time 1pm) in Farquharson Park. As in previous years, it will be based around the Primary School Football Tournament with stalls by local groups including a BBQ, Cake & Candy, and Hamper Raffle. Donations for the hamper would be gratefully appreciated and can be dropped off to Stuart Gordon (new houses next to Feughside Inn) before Friday 1 June. We will set up for the Fun Day on Sunday at 9.30 am and any helpers would be warmly welcomed. Please note that no cars will be allowed in our out of the Park after 12.15 for safety reasons. BIRSE COMMUNITY TRUST The Birse Community Trust AGM is planned for 5.00 pm on Sunday 20 May. Invitations will be sent out in late April with the Annual Report, which will provide an update on the Trust s activities in 2017. The Trustees are extremely grateful to those who are able attend the AGM as it allows the Trustees to update the community on the Trust s plans for the next year. If you have any thoughts or questions on the Trust please contact Guy Haslam. In particular, the Trust is looking for help from dog owners on the Finzean Community Path. The path is an excellent community resource used by a large number of local people, but we have had several complaints about dog mess on the path recently. Please could dog walkers ensure that they clean up after their dogs. Secondly, could dog owners please ensure that their dogs do not disturb the animals in the fields close to the path or allow their dogs to run around the fields uncontrolled when ground birds are nesting. DEFIBRILLATOR COURSE An evening course on using the defibrillator has been organised in Finzean Hall on Wednesday 2 May. Ballogie Community Association is also running a course in Birse on Wednesday 25 April. Please contact Donna Thow for more information. 2

The Parent Council would be very grateful if anyone could help on the day, for marshalling and serving tea. Please contact Andrew Douglas if you would like to volunteer. Finzean Hall Maintenance Day Sunday 13 May at 10am The usual spring clean is required at the hall and if you have a spare hour or two we would be grateful of your help in order to keep the hall at its best. The Club has gone from strength to strength since being formed two years ago and is always keen to welcome new members, whether novices or more experienced players. Boules are available for those wanting to try the game for the first time and coaching is provided by our more seasoned members.. In addition to Tuesday evenings we also play most Saturday mornings at 10am. Please come and try our this sport, we are a very sociable club and you are guaranteed a warm welcome and lots of fun. We play in most weathers, so dress appropriately! 4

FINZEAN BADMINTON CLUB Another successful season of badminton in Finzean Hall has just finished. The club will restart for the next season on the first Monday of October 2018, at 7.30pm, and will run until the end of March. Anyone from secondary age upwards is most welcome. For information contact June Whyte. FINZEAN WOMEN S INSTITUTE The Finzean SWI meet on the 3 rd Thursday of the month at Finzean Hall at 7.30pm from September to April. This session we have made Fairy Gardens, visited Bennett House, had a Birthday Outing to see Grease, made Cocktails and Mocktails, had a Watercolour Painting Workshop and made Fabric Brooches. We have a wide variety of interests and love to share our skills with others. New members and visitors are always welcome. Tea and cake also provided. FINZEAN UNDER 5S We are a friendly playgroup for parents, carers, and babies and children 0-5. It runs all year round from 10 12 on Thursdays and everyone is welcome. There is outdoor as well as indoor space and lots of toys. Come along for a cuppa and some home baking. First session is free. Contact us via our Facebook page. 5

WIND FARMS There are now two proposed wind farm developments in the area south of Finzean. The first one is the Glendye Windfarm (26 turbines) which is on the western side of the Cairn o'mount which has been in the planning process for some time, and there is now a second potential farm which is essentially an extension of the Mid Hill Development (10 turbines) which some people can already see to the south east of Finzean (south of Kerloch). Both projects are in the early stages of the planning process and may not, of course, end up going ahead. Finzean Community Council is now a consultee on both developments and so if you have any views or comments please contact the Community Council; contact Paul Tanner. FINZEAN OIL GROUP The Group was set up to improve the efficiency of oil deliveries around Finzean. The aim is to ensure that one tanker delivers to a number of houses in one delivery and that members benefit from a bulk order. It is a competitive price and there is certainly a 2-3 pence a litre reduction if you normally order under 1,000 litres. There is no membership fee and the Group has a contract with Highland Fuels. It is very simple you set up an account over the phone and receive an email every 2 months asking how much oil you require in the next delivery; it is then delivered within a week and you just have to pay. We currently have 15 members and are looking for a few new members to join. If you are interested please contact Guy Haslam. New Website Please visit our fantastic new hall website: finzean-hall.co.uk. This has a lovely photo gallery showcasing the hall, and calendar which allows visitors to see exactly what s going on and check availability for bookings. 6
