SOUTH VENICE YACHT CLUB YACHT YARN VOLUME XXXVI ISSUE 6 June 2018 COMMODORE As we wind down this month with our last Dinner/Dance, Jimmy Buffet, we can look back at the worst of times and the best of times. The damage caused by IRMA and the Big Success of rebuilding the club and bringing down our $50,000 loan to about $10,000. Our Big Success was due to the generosity and hard work of our members. We thank you ALL. Tom Wilson We will start off in September with plans for more fund raisers to pay off our debt and build up our bank account to attack more needed repairs and improvements. We have the following on our agenda and will need committees to help organize and carry them out. So please think about how you can help this fall. Remember we are a club of Volunteers. Chili Cook Off hopefully combined with the South Venice Civic Association. Jewelry Sale planned for December 2ⁿ. Mystery Dinner. Art Display/Sale with High Tea or Soup & Salad Bar displaying the Art of our Art Group. Other Ideas you may have-please give us input. You may notice some new trees out front by the anchor. They are in memory of Roger Wood and Bruce Brookshire and they also have plaques. As you all head out or stay around for the summer, we wish you God Speed and hope to see you all back in the fall. If you are around Venice for the summer, we can always use help to keep up the club and grounds. VICE COMMODORE It s already summer! What happened to or 2017-18 season? Lots of events, happenings, good times, hard times, recovery times they all brought us together as a Club and made us stronger. Now let s all go out and make this summer the best one yet. We ll maybe put together a picnic pot-luck hang around the Club and play event in late July stay tuned for that! Our June Jimmy Buffet last dance of the season is June 9th we ll have Jimmy Spoto playing for us he is always such fun!! Starts at 5:30 very, very (did I say very?) casual. We ll BBQ, and the party will be indoors, with maybe horse shoes and port hole games outside, if anyone wants to play. See you in September!! (29th) Short One Man Band will be on tap and he s a fella not to be missed! BUILDINGS & GROUNDS Sheri Johnson We have started a Memorial Grove out in front of the clubhouse which currently has 3 foxtail palms. One is in honor of a former Commodore, Roger Wood, courtesy of Bruce and Sandra Bruce Weaver Brookshire. The second is in loving memory of our favorite MC, Bruce Brookshire, who passed away suddenly last month. The Book Club Babes, which include Sandra ( our favorite photographer), have funded this one. There is now a third palm ready to memorialize if you wish, and more can be added as members wish to remember loved ones
