Send yours in today!! 1st Saturday. Quakertown Breakfast hosted by Ed & Kathy Benner. Finally a nice mostly sunny was on tap for the 26 retreads that came for breakfast. I want to thank David Gill for hiking out to the parking lot to count bikes for me. He counted 11 bikes. After breakfast 11 Retreads on 7 bikes rode north to Bear Rock Junction to compete at mini golf. The top prize was an ice cream treat. The winner was Lorraine Gill with an amazing score of 42 on a par 48 course. Nice going Lorraine. It was also Lorraine's birthday. I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as Kathy and I did. See you next time. Ed & Kathy 2 nd Saturday. McAlisterville Breakfast hosted by Rich & Betsy Tressler. On Saturday, September 10, eight Retreads met for breakfast at the "Bread of Life" restaurant in McAlasterville. It was a nice day and most were on bikes. There were a few new people from Mifflintown. A nice time was had by all. We had no fifty-fifty. One advantage to a small breakfast group is that everyone gets to put their two cents in! Hopefully more will come out in October. The trees should be in full color and the mountains will be beautiful. Till then ride safe and enjoy the nice weather. -Betsy and Rich Tressler 3rd Saturday Shartlesville Breakfast hosted by Bill & Nancy Lingenfelter. 41 Retreads and 2 guests arrived for our September breakfast, the weather was great for riding. The guests were: Barry Moulton who is the brother (from Florida) of Dorene Smith. And Randy Kellett, son of Bob & Arlene Kellett. We were a little more crowded than usual since we did not have our private room but we will be back in there for October. We still have some events upcoming, one is the meet for Dinner in November which is filling quickly. Check your newsletter for the flyer, this dinner is strictly limited to 50 people, no walk ins due to the size of the room, give us a call or email if you want to attend. Thanks to Dick Kern for helping Bill sell the 50/50 tickets the winner was Tim Smith. Enjoy what s left of the riding weather! - Bill & Nancy 4 th Sunday most months Lancaster Breakfast hosted by Art Grantz It was good to be back at Hershey Farm after missing the whole summer due to travels. I want to thank Joyce & Ralph, Robin & Carl, and Doreen and Tim Smith, and anyone who helped them, for filling in for me while I was away. There were 19 Retreads at breakfast, a surprisingly small amount for such a nice morning. The 50/50 was won by Jane & Ed Frank. After breakfast 10 of us went for a scenic ride, led by Charlie Boyer for the first leg who took us on a tranquil Sunday ride to Wrightsville. After our break I took over the lead and we wandered some scenic roads to our lunch stop at the Delta Family Restaurant. After lunch most of the riders headed home but 3 of us decided to have route 851 for dessert. It was a great day. - Art
Island Pizza Social Attendance was light for our last pizza night of the season but a great group of 18 Retreads arrived to make the evening fun. We all enjoyed a good dinner and great conversation. We want to thank all the Retreads that attended our pizza nights this past summer, you make it all worthwhile and we look forward to hosting them again next year. Hope the winter goes fast! - Bill & Nancy Lingenfelter Hellam Ice Cream Social There were 8 retreads at Hellamshire. We all had good food and friendly conversations. Larry Hershberger was there with his new Spyder. Last social Oct 12. Charlie Boyer New Holland Ice Cream Social There were 23 Retreads at the Squireside for the last Ice Cream Social of the season at that location. It was good to see Dick Rehm and Jim Diem. Dick has had eye problems and Jim broke his foot. This was a good turnout considering that many of the regulars were up at the new England Rally. The weather was great and almost everyone came by bike. The sunset on the way home was beautiful. - Art Monday Mystery Ride Our Monday Mystery ride began with 7 Retreads, taking scenic back roads from Marietta to Lititz. We took a break in Lititz and picked up 2 more Retreads. We continued our scenic ride to Shartlesville for lunch at the Blue Mountain Family Restaurant. One more Retread met us at the restaurant. She couldn't ride with us due to a broken foot. The weather was wonderful and after lunch we went our separate ways home. It was a great day, thank you all for coming along and making it such fun. - Art Picnic We had great weather for our picnic at the Intercourse Community Park, there were a lot of motorcycles in the parking lot. 70 Retreads gathered for an afternoon of good food and fellowship. There were plenty of door prizes and the 50/50 was won by Hoss & Woofie. It was great to have Bruce and Helen Wood with us, we don t see them often since Bruce had a stroke. It was also great to nsee Jim Diem, Dick Rehm, and Geno Valesano after their recent health issues. Thank you to all who donated door prizes and all who attended. - Art From Your Rep Pennsylvania's new Ride on Red law went into in effect on Monday Sept 19. If a traffic light does not detect your vehicle and stays red for a long time you can treat it like a stop sign and proceed when it is safe. This law was originally written for motorcycles and bicycles but was amended during the legislative process to include all vehicles. This is good news for motorcyclists who often get stuck at these lights. The bad news is that we now have to be more vigilant watching for cars that may go through a red light without seeing us. Please be careful and ride safely. It s time for our annual collection of Christmas Cards for our Soldiers serving overseas. You may donate cards and/or money for this effort. Cards should be signed and may include an appropriate personal message. No envelopes. Continued on next page -
Cash donations will be used to offset the cost of getting the cards to the soldiers and to provide personal comfort items. You may mail them to me at 87 Cold Springs Dr Manchester PA 17345, or bring them to breakfast before November 7. Please send in your membership renewal for 2017 now. Thank you.
