SUNDAY BIKE RIDES IN THE TRIANGLE #AD0906 Join your fellow club members for biking on various trails and roads in the Triangle. This is a group ride for the casual cyclist, and is a great way to stay in shape. Contact the Coordinators to have your name added to the e-mail contact list to receive weekly updates on the cycling route and time which will vary from week to week. We ride approximately two hours, and the goal is to ride each Sunday. The rides are usually followed up with some much needed refreshments and food at a local dining establishment. Location: We will ride a different route each Sunday. Please e-mail the Coordinators and get on the e-mail list for ride/ route information. Event Fee: No fee; but, please let the coordinator know in advance if you plan to attend. Meeting time: Varies based on route and weather Coordinators: Ernie Braasch ernie.braasch@gmail.com Mary Ann Norwood norwooma@gmail.com OUR CONDOLENCES JACK GODKIN We were so saddened to learn of the loss of our dear friend and long-time RSOC member and past club president, Jack Godkin, on July 5. Jack served as a great ambassador for the RSOC with his winning personality and sense of humor, and love of parties and adventure. Jack served as a great example of how to live life well and to the fullest. Jack pursued and fulfilled his many life s dreams traveling the world, living in the Colorado mountains and North Carolina coast (both of which he loved), and participating in countless sporting adventures. Even during the course of his illness, Jack s friends noted that he kept such a positive attitude, always forward thinking and continually seeking the joys offered in life. Jack may not have realized how he impacted those who had the good fortune of knowing him. However, recalling the full and rich life Jack lived helps evaluate our own lives, encouraging us to make our life dreams a reality, as Jack did. We extend our sympathies to Jack s wife and our good friend, Liz Sheely Godkin. Jack continually expressed his good fortune to have Liz in his life, and surely knew the depth of Liz s love for him through her constant support and tender care during the most difficult periods of his illness. Also, our sympathies go to Jack s children, John, Jr., Jennifer and Jeffrey in their loss a loss that is shared by all who knew Jack. JORDAN LAKE DAY SAIL AND PADDLE Saturday, August 16 #BT1404 Join your friends at Jordan Lake for a fun and relaxing day of sailing. Bring a picnic lunch, bring the kids and enjoy the beach at Vista Point for a day of sailing, paddling and socializing. This is the perfect event for our new members to make new acquaintances or members to bring a guest that might be interested in joining RSOC. It is also a great event to spend time with your kids. No experience is necessary and instruction will be available for newcomers to these sports. The only cost for this trip is the $6 State Park entrance fee. Please sign up in advance. This is a change from the past. If we do not have at least five to six people signed up by Friday, August 15, that are able to help with unloading and loading the boats, the trip will be cancelled. The club boats will be available starting about 11:00 a.m. If no one shows up by 1:00 p.m., the trip will be cancelled. If you are a sailboat owner and would like to share your boat with other club members, please come out and help make the day even more fun. Location: Vista Point at Jordan Lake Directions: Take US 64 West toward Pittsboro. Cross over the lake and continue west until you reach Pea Ridge Road (first signal light after crossing the lake). Turn left at Pea Ridge Road. Pea Ridge Road will end at the Vista Point park area. Continue to the end of this road in the park. We will be at the beach area to the far left of the boat ramps. Start/meet time: 11:00 a.m. End time: 4:00 p.m. Event fee: None, except for $6 park entrance fee Maximum attendees: 40 Guests (per member) allowed: 5 Coordinator: Jim Bennett 919/362-9729 jben@mindspring.com THURSDAY EVENING BIKE RIDES IN UMSTEAD STATE PARK #AD0905 Join us to cycle through the beautiful Umstead State Park.
