The Washington March 2018 Greater Seattle Chapter SDC Founded in 1969 Volume 48 Number 3 The President s STEERING COLUMN Welcome to March!! I, for one, am so glad that it is almost Spring! Last month s meeting took place at the Hoebelheinrichs home in Sumner at the last minute because the restaurant we were to meet at closed for the Superbowl! Thanks to Clayton and Evelyn for hosting on such short notice and to everyone who attended and brought pot-luck snacks to share. The following week, several of us with our Studebakers, met in front of the LeMay America s Car Museum in Tacoma, for a photo shoot to promote the 54 th International Meet. I think the photos turned out great; I am sure one will be gracing the cover of Turning Wheels in the upcoming months. The SDC had booths at both the Corvette/High Performance swap meet and the Early Bird Swap meet last month. Rick and I had our 1953 mild custom Commander hardtop and Kenny and Kathy Durkee had their 1964 R2 Lark on display at the Corvette meet. INTERNATIONAL UPDATE See inside for registration forms We also gave out flyers for the 54 th annual SDC meet and car show. I was amazed at how many people we met have Studebakers in their garages and hope that some of them will attend the international meet! Bob Moser and other members of the Greater Tacoma SDC chapter had their Studebakers parked in the Puyallup Fairground s Showplex for the Early Bird swap meet. I haven t yet heard how many people picked up a flyer for the meet, I hope it was wellreceived. As we approach car show season, it will be important for all of us to publicize the meet as much as possible. Bob and I created a one-page flyer that is available if you want a supply to hand out at the various car shows that you attend throughout early summer. I plan to have copies to give out at the March, April and May monthly meetings. This month s meeting will be at Don and Joan Andersen s home in Kent. I think we are ordering pizza - please bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share. See you then, Laurel

Page 3 For February, we SECRATARY S met at Hoebelheinrich's on the 4th. The meeting location had to be changed at the last minute when it was found that the restaurant, where reservations had been made, was going to be closed that afternoon for the Super Bowl. Sort of like a national holiday, I guess. We found that our Treasurer (Greta) was still not totally well and would not be in attendance. Twelve of us were in attendance. Even though impromptu, the food was very good and the weather was good enough for several to be outside gathered around a Studebaker or two for a while. President Laurel went over some of the details for the 2018 International including a photo shoot at the Lemay on the 10th. I drove by that site at the appointed time and saw about 20 Studebakers. I was told they had more cars than needed for the planned pictures. Laurel mentioned the meeting of the Swap Meet Committee, (for the 2018) on Feb. 10th, as well. Being the committee chair, I was there for that meeting which was at the Tacoma Dome. The indoor swap will be in the exhibition hall at the Dome and the outside swap spaces will be in the Dome parking Lot "A". We toured both locations. Back to the February meeting, it was also stated there would be the first swap meet of this year on Feb 17th and 18th at the Puyallup Fair Grounds. And, on another subject it was stated that at the 2018 International there would be no SDC banquet. As before, more help is needed to fill out committees for the International.
