============================================================================= Ride Report 2/11/17 Lottie's Diner Lunch Ride by Dennis Bible We left from the Blairsville Marathon Station at 10 AM with three bikes, one trike and five riders under cloudy skies, intermittent fog and 50 degrees. It looked like we could get rain anytime but the forecast and the radar picture said different. Just the same, we kept our fingers crossed! Allen Cecil led as he's the guy that told me of this little diner in Benton, Tennessee. We headed west on the 515 and turned north on Hwy 60 to Ducktown, TN. Then west on Hwys 64/74 thru the lways interesting and beautiful Ocoee Gorge. At the bottom of the Gorge Allen turned on a hidden side road and led us 4 miles up the mountain to the Chillowee overlook which allows a great view of Lake Ocoee and on clearer days even further towards Chattanooga. After coming down the mountain, we continued west to Hwy 411, then headed north to Benton and Lottie's Diner which is actually on a short spur of the "Old Hwy 411". It's a small, locally owned grill with a 4 page breakfast, lunch & dinner menu. I ordered a single Patty Melt (glad I didn't get the double) and a salad. Allen got the "Cat Head Biscuit & Gravy" with a chicken steak. I'm not sure what the other riders ordered but I saw a lot of biscuits and gravy on large platters and when the food came it got real quiet except for some satisfied sighing and pleasant groaning. I'll be going there again! Leaving the diner we headed north to Hwy 30 and followed the Hiawassee River east to Reliance where we took a break and studied the stone work and mill stones around the Texaco Station. We then followed Hwy 30 over the mountain and down to Lake Ocoee where we turned east and retraced our path up the Ocoee Gorge on our way home. The rain held off and the temps got up to an average 60 degrees for a comfortable but cloudy ride. There were 5 riders, 140 miles and 5 1/2 hours! Not bad for mid-february! Mexican Lunch Ride Report Saturday March 4th, 2017 By Dennis Bible We rolled out of the Blairsville Marathon Station about 10 AM under clear skies and mid-40 degree temps. We were a 4 unit group with one bike, two trikes and a sporty red BMW two seater with 7 riders. About 6 miles up Hwy 129 we picked up another couple on a trike. After crossing into N. Carolina, we headed West on Hwys 64/74, crossing into Tennessee and working our way down the Ocoee Gorge. It appears to me that there are a few more Memorials (Crosses) along road shoulders in the Gorge than there were last year. Tragic! Bottoming out at Lake Ocoee we pick up Hwy 411 South and head for our lunch diner in Chatsworth. We cross back into Georgia in just a few miles. That's crossing three state lines in less than 90 minutes, You'd find that hard to do west of the Mississippi, but here, it's no big deal. We find our restaurant in Chatsworth without any trouble and start stripping riding gear to get comfortable for lunch. I checked this place out on the internet and it had a five star rating with lots of wonderful testimonials. I'm sorry to say that we've had better Mexican food. Those testimonials must have been sent in by relatives and employees of the owners! After lunch we continued South a few miles and turned East on Hwy 52 at the magnificent Chatsworth Courthouse (I'd like to go into that place sometime) and headed for Ellijay via Fort Mountain. Continuing through Ellijay on Hwy 52 for a few miles we turned North on Big Creek Road and negotiated the back country through Dial and Skeenah Gap back to Blairsville. Great day for a ride, too bad about the food. BUT, Gordy says he knows a great Mexican place somewhere around Cornelia, so let's see if we can get him to show us this secret spot! Nine riders, five units, five and a half hours, 160 miles. Ride Lead, Dennis & Sue. Tail Gunners Bill & Barb Schleicher (thanks). D Sorry folks, No pictures this time. Had to be there to appreciate the Ride. ================================================================================ 5

================================================================================ Treasurers Report: Where does Chapter J earn funds and spend funds? Chapter J earns funds throughout the year from various sources. In 2016, we had a Chinese Auction at the Chapter J Valentine s Day party in February where items donated by the various Members of the Chapter were auctioned. We had a garage and bake sale in October. Members sold Wing Ding tickets as a Chapter Fundraiser where the Chapter earned 80 cents for each ticket sold. In addition, Members purchase 50/25/25 tickets at each meeting and the Chapter receives 50% of these ticket sales. Two of our Chapter members won $25.00 for our Chapter in a Chapter Challenge at another Chapter s Fun Days. Our Chapter J Members have also been very generous with donating cash or items to be used for our various causes. In 2016, we purchased school supplies for children in Towns and Union counties. We also sponsored at Christmas, a family from each of these counties where we purchased clothes, toys and other items for each family s children. Without our Chapter J s Members support, we would not be able to assist families in our communities. Barb Activity Directors Report: "April Fools/Spring - Chinese and Silent Auction Chili Feed". This will be held at the Young Harris Community Center, April 1 st, 2017. Dinner is at 6:00 PM, please bring something for the auction that you've made or bought. we're going to play a game called "Two Truths and One Lie" where you will write down two truths about yourself and one lie and we'll all have to guess which is the lie. Plus everyone be thinking of an April Fools story that you've done, happened to you or heard about! I'll be passing out a sign-up sheet for the dinner, we'll need some to make their favorite chili, salad or dessert. Hope to see everyone there to support school supplies for Union and Town's County schools with our auction. Sue 6
