This is Rotary s no. 1 world project to rid polio from the world. It has run a massive world-wide multimillion dollar vaccination program since 1985 where it has vaccinated, and is still vaccinating every new born child to eradicate the disease. It is doing this with the support of national governments and international agencies such as the World Health Organisation. Polio is now limited to just two countries Pakistan and Afghanistan and with the onground efforts focused in these countries over the past few years it anticipates eliminating the disease by 2017.
There have been 7 cases so far this year one in Afghanistan and 6 in Pakistan this is a third of cases to this time in 2015. The disease is now limited to the Taliban controlled areas in the North-western provinces of both countries.
