KNIFEHOLDER SAFETY IMPORTANT! Read and understand all instructions before operating the knifeholder. Failure to follow instructions may cause the knifeholder to function incorrectly and cause serious injury. The Tidland Series 'C' Knifeholder is intended to be used to produce a slit when used with a driven anvil system, and there is no other intended purpose. While operating the knifeholder, follow all existing plant safety instructions and/or requirements. Always wear stainless steel protective gloves when changing or removing the knife blade. Keep fingers clear of the blade edge at all times.! WARNING Sharp knives may cause severe bodily injury. Keep clear. Do not put hands in machines. Keep hands away from knife blades at all times. Compliance with Federal, State, and local safety regulations is your responsibility. Be familiar with them and always work safely. 3

BLADE REPLACEMENT / CHANGING BLADES A. To Remove Blade Cartridge: 1. Turn the function control knob to red (stop). 2. Loosen the wedge lock screw by turning counter-clockwise (1-3 rotations). 3. Press and hold down the latch pin and slide the blade cartridge off the cant angle key. Wedge Lock Screw Cant Angle Key B. To Replace Blade Cartridge: Latch Pin 1. Press and hold down the latch pin and slide the blade cartridge back onto the cant angle key. Blade Cartridge 2. Release the latch pin. Note: The latch pin will "snap" in place when the blade cartridge is in the correct position. 3. Tighten the wedge lock screw by turning clockwise until firmly snug. 5

C. To Remove the Knife Blade 1. Remove blade cartridge. See 'To Remove Blade Cartridge'. 2. Using a 3mm Allen wrench, remove the four (4) capscrews that hold each blade guard. safety lock pin roll pin safety lock spring blade strut 3. Remove both blade guards. 4. Using a 4mm Allen wrench, remove the two (2) socket head capscrews that hold each axle retainer in place. 5. Remove both axle retainers. axle assembly, (knife blade & blade clamp) socket head capscrew, blade guard 6. Remove the axle assembly. 7. Loosen the three (3) socket head capscrews and remove the blade clamp. 8. Remove knife blade. socket head capscrew, blade clamp axle retainer blade guard socket head capscrew, axle retainer D. To Replace Knife Blade 1. Align the knife blade with the blade clamp. 2. Tighten the three (3) socket head capscrews. 3. Replace both axle retainers onto the axle assembly. 4. Using a 4mm Allen wrench, secure the two (2) socket head capscrews per side. 5. Replace the blade guards. 6. Secure the blade guards using a 3mm Allen wrench to tighten the capscrews. 6

CHANGING THE CANT ANGLE KEY Note: Crush slitting requires a 0 degree cant angle key. To Remove the Cant Angle Key: 1. Remove the blade cartridge from the knifeholder, and set aside. See 'To Remove Blade Cartridge'. 2. Remove the two M5 socket head capscrews from the wedge lock assembly. 3. Slide the wedge lock assembly out of the knifeholder control body while supporting the cant angle key. socket head capscrews 4. Remove both the wedge lock assembly and the cant angle key. wedge lock assembly piston junction cant angle key To Replace the Cant Angle Key: 1. Inspect the cant angle key and note that the hole through its stem is machined on an incline. Make sure to replace the cant angle key with the higher hole to the front. 2. Insert the cant angle key into the bottom hole of the piston. Leave an 1/8-inch (3.18mm) space between the cant angle key and the piston. Hold in place. 3. Adjust the wedge lock assembly to obtain the following dimensions. Flat side up Class I Class II Class III A no gap no gap 3/8" (9.53mm) A 4. Hold the wedge lock assembly with the flat side up. 5. Insert the wedge lock assembly through the front hole of the piston and the hole in the cant angle key stem. This allows the wedge lock to draw in the cant angle key. 6. Replace and tighten the two M5 socket head capscrews. 7. Replace the blade cartridge. See 'To Replace Blade Cartridge'. 7
