While not exactly a Thanksgiving dinner (that would come the next week), it was truly an event to see, hug, and talk with members from all four chapters and to welcome eight new members to DKG in Chattanooga. Jeanette Underwood made spectacular table decorations with things she brought from her own home! Ten tables with live chrysanthemums, pumpkins of varying sizes, fall leaves, and other items on a Thanksgiving/fall theme. Susie and I were there early to do grunt work and follow Jeanette s decorating directions. We had a wonderful time as we prepared Fellowship Hall for the 71 registered attendees. We are so pleased to welcome Erin Grant and Dr. Jessie Beaumont Schmid to Alpha Phi. I know you will want to meet them when you come to the Christmas Luncheon. We still need volunteers for our Kids on the Block (KOTB) holiday wrapping on Saturday, Dec. 13. Six have signed up for the 5:30-7:45 session (Lin Marten, Sandy Smith, Margaret Abernathy, Patsy Woodham and (hopefully soon-to-be-reinstated) Nancy Copland and Sarah Jones) and I need some volunteers to help me from 7:45-10:00. If you are available and willing to wrap with me, please email/text/call me immediately. As of November 18, 31 of our 47 members (66%) have participated in one or more chapter events. Remember that our chapter success goal for this year is to have 100% of members attend/participate in at least one event. Will I get to wish you a Merry Christmas in person on December 20? I hope so!

Upcoming Events P A G E 2 Join Us for a Joyful Holiday Celebration! Saturday, December 20 th, 12:00 pm is our annual Christmas luncheon at Beyond the Garden Gate in Ooltewah. Please invite a prospective member to join you for this occasion. The menu is the Garden Gate Sampler Plate: scoop of chicken salad, pimento, slice of quiche, fruit cup with dip, congealed salad, small croissant, beverage,... and a partridge in a pear tree!! Just kidding about the tree! Our Christmas Storyteller is Michael Gray the founder and producer of The River City Sessions presented monthly at The Camp House in downtown Chattanooga. The sessions are recorded live each month and then broadcast later on WUTC. A field trip to RCS would be a great field trip for DKG. Total cost is $16. We will recognize our mini grant recipients at the luncheon. Your check is your reservation mailed to Susie Westbrook, 2320 Green Valley Road, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379. Check should be made payable to Alpha Phi. The deadline is Monday, December 15 th. Legislative Symposium January Executive Planning Session Xi State Convention February 3-4, 2015 at the Millennium House in Nashville Stay tuned for more information. Let Sandy Smith know if you are interested. TBA June 4-6 at Sewanee, TN Kids on the Block (KOTB) Alpha Phi will be wrapping for Kids on the Block on Saturday, December 13 th. We are signed up for the 5:30 7:45 session. If you can help during this time, please contact Jensi ASAP. Remember, KOTB ALWAYS needs volunteers to help wrap Christmas packages. If you are in the mall, please donate some of your time for this wonderful project. KOTB has made numerous appearances at schools free of charge. Let's give them our support! P A G E 3 Member News Ann Moore s daughter (Tracy) had her baby on December 1. Lynn and Ann have a new grandson. His name is Major. They now have 5 grandchildren who are 3 years and under. Major is the only boy. The two oldest are 2 1/2 months apart and they were born this summer, July 6th and July 8th. We think Ann is going to be very busy in the near future. Stay tuned for pictures, Congratulations to Ann. Margaret Abernathy was rear-ended on November 19, but she was unhurt and continues to do well after her late-summer neck surgery. Teresa Wilhoite continues to divide her time between taking care of her father (dementia) and visiting with her children and grandchildren in North Carolina. Sandy Smith: Last month, we announced that Sandy Smith attended a private reception and the Annual Kefauver Dinner on October 18. The reception was a fundraiser for President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter's grandson, Jason Carter, a candidate for Governor of Georgia. What we did not have last month was the picture of Sandy with the Carter s! Check it out! L to R: Rosalynn Carter, Sandy Smith and Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter Results of the Belk Charity Sale We had three people who worked during the sale. Thanks to those who got up early to work the ticket tables, help customers, etc. Our hardy members were Judy Nixon, Mary Holland, and Susie Westbrook. We sold $445 tickets for the sale plus we will receive a donation from Belk for our volunteers. We haven't received that information as yet but we now have the ability to add to the mini grants!

Alpha Phi November Meeting Chattanooga Initiation P A G E 4 Special thanks to Jeanette Underwood, who stepped in for her friend Susie Westbrook, and planned 10 beautiful table fall vignettes for the joint initiation and dinner. If you see or talk with either of these members, please tell them we regret their going, but look forward to the time in their lives when they will be able to return. P A G E 7 Minutes from October Meeting At the chapter planning session last summer at Jensi s house, it was decided that meeting minutes should be printed in the newsletter. We did not have October s minutes in time for the November newsletter issue. So, in keeping with our agreement, below please find the minutes from that meeting. Minutes: Meeting, October 21, 2014 Our last meeting was held on October 21, 2014 at the H'Art Gallery on Main Street in downtown Chattanooga. We started with Halloween themed refreshments and fellowship, including an icebreaker about our favorite Halloween costume ideas. The business portion of the meeting started with Susie presenting the Treasurer's report, and then reports from various committees. Amy Thompson informed us that all three nominees for membership were voted on and accepted. Judy Nixon talked about the Belk Charity Sale, and passed out tickets to any member willing to sell them to raise money for our mini-grant program. Sandy spoke about the high school essay contest, and about reaching out specifically to GPS and CGLA. Sharon reminded us of the November 15 deadline for mini-grant applications, and handed out copies to anyone wishing to take to a colleague. In the announcements portion, led by Jensi, we decided on a date for the Kids on the Block gift wrapping project (Saturday, December 13); mentioned the Vision Foundation Grant Application; talked about State Organization Scholarships (February 15 deadline); member news; and reminders about our upcoming events, including the November 18 initiation dinner at BUMC, and the Christmas luncheon. We then had a small baby shower for two of our members, and then learned about our host location, the H'Art Gallery, with a tour and talk by one of its organizers.
