President outlined discussions held at SNSW Presidents Meeting: Project to attract young swimmers (7 Years and Younger) to be implemented shortly, after the successful pilot scheme tried in Queensland and Victoria. 7. Awaiting Invoices for SIRC Penrith (OW) and SOPAC (Spring Qual. Meet) President pointed out Clubs can enter club Lane and check funds received on their behalf, for entries, by SAL. REGISTRAR & COMPETITION COMMITTEE: Registrar / Competition Convener Kathy Thompson presented attached report, with current meet approval status. Clubs advised, MSW Annual Presentation booked for 16 th May 2015 at St Johns Park Bowling Club, Edensor Park. Clubs advised not to book their presentation on same date. Complimentary comments passed by Delegates to the Area, re the hard work to bring the qualifying meet back on line on Sunday 9 November 2014. Registrar advised (based on assumption for checking) only top four swimmers from Speedo heats to progress to Speedo Finals in 2015. Moved and Seconded: Competition Report accepted 9. AREA TECHNICAL SWIMMING COMMITTEE: New Convener, Dave Cooper, presented verbal report: Committee examined the presentation of Modules in group sessions Committee delivered presentation on Open Water Officiating on 29 October 2014. On Line Nominations have been introduced, which make life for nominating officials and Convener much easier. Committee will require Clubs supply list of residing officials, to update current Area TO Data Base Last three meets have been successful, and special thanks to all those who attended the Open water and Spring meets, on 8 and 9 November respectively Moved and Seconded: ATSCC report accepted 10. SELECTION AND DEVELOPMENT: Convener, Leonardo Repeti, presented attached report. SNSW has organised a de-brief for 2014 and planning 2015 of development programs, on Saturday 29 November 2014. The new timing (quantum) was used and there were no major issues. Congratulations to all teams and swimmers. 2260 entries. The Open Water Championships were the largest open water event the Area has run. 246 Swimmers. A big thanks to all that helped make the day a success. Congratulations to Linda Brown, Aquablitz, for stepping in to help announce when my voice gave out. This was the last of the championship meets and invitations to all award recipients sent out by February next year. The Long Course Qualifying Meet almost reached capacity with 2180 entries. The expected finish time of 5:58pm placed in Jeopardy due to timing issues. The meet start 66 minutes late but thanks everyone pulling together the meet finished at 5:30. MSW Finished 7 out of 10 (Winner MNW) Thank you to the parent Volunteers: Mrs. Wise, Mrs. Cupitt, Mrs. Coleman, Mr. & Mrs. Stubbs, Mrs. Pepper. Meet used as a development session for Officials: Mrs. Betar trained as a Marshall/ Check Starter. D: Development days: 9 & 10 August, Sydney Academy of Sport Camp at Narrabeen Camp involved lectures in nutrition and stretching, Strokes and Meet preparation. Training Sessions and Test Sets. SNSW Development Meet 28 September at SOPAC Areas Present at Meet: MSW, SESA, MNE, MNW, Mountains & Plains, North Coast, New England & North West, Coast & Valley, ACT, Western. MSW Finished 8 out of 10 (Winner North Coast) NOVICE: Development Day: 6 September at Guildford Pools, 2 to 4 PM Training and stretching session, followed by sausage Sizzle. As a summary, all Squads were well behaved and complied with instructions by Coaches and Managers. All Lectures, accommodations/refreshments, training sessions, transport and meets were well suited and achieved their goals. Novice Squad Session was the highlight of the season, with lots young kids enjoying a different type of training session. This has been the first development year of a four Year Program as set by SNSW, to achieve qualifying to National Age by 2016 and final at Nationals in 2018. There have been some hiccups along the way, and these will be reviewed prior to 2015 Development activities. We hope that we have started both swimmers and parents, in thinking towards a committed swimming future and success. I personally thank all the Managers, Coaches, and Parents that have contributed to this year s activities, with a LARGE THANKS to the Selection Development Committee (Denise, Josef, Sarah, Michael) for their input, arguments and positive / negative ideas. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS CLEARANCE. MSW AREA POLICY UPDATE 26 October 2014 NOTICE TO ALL MSW CLUBS Further to previous notices on this State matter, Area advises as follows: Swimming NSW requires that all Volunteers comply with this Legislation by 1 January 2015. Metro South West Management agrees with this directive from SNSW, and requires all Clubs and Officials ensure volunteers observe these checks, by 1 January 2015 EXEMPTIONS: Any Volunteers, under the age of 18. Volunteering by a parent or close relative with a team, program or other activity in which the child usually participates or is a team member. Clubs or other bodies, providing services for children, in the presence of other adults. APPLICATION PROCESS Volunteer goes on line to www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au There are no fees for volunteers, only for paid workers who require clearance Volunteer fills out on line application form (if not on internet, please call 02 9286 7219) Volunteers receive an application number, at completion of application Volunteer presents application number, with current proof of ID, at any NSW Motor Registry or Government Access Centre offices. Applying volunteer receives an outcome, via email - WWCC clearance letter with a number. This number will be valid for five (5) years. REGISTRATION OF WWCC NUMBER. All Clubs (and Area) are to register as employers of the volunteers Volunteer presents WWC clearance letter to their Club s authorized officer, with their Date of Birth, for registration as a Volunteer at: www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au Volunteer, or their Club, must also notify the Area and SNSW with clearance number and DOB, for their registration. ALL COACHES, and ANY PAID WORKERS, MUST PRESENT THEIR CLEARANCE NUMBER and DOB, TO THE CLUB, AREA and SNSW FOR REGISTRATION. The Club Officer receives a confirmation clearance and registration advice from NSW Department. The Officer will maintain a register for the Club. NOTES: At some competitions, volunteers may be required to assist from the grandstands. If the volunteering work required is in view of public and not involved in contact with children for extended periods, without other adults being present, a clearance will not be required. If the volunteering work is away from the public, a statutory declaration must be completed by the volunteer, prior to commencement of volunteering work.
