January 2008 Volume 2, Issue 1 Event Calendar Gold Country Run Corvette Club Santa Barbara S h a r o n S m i t h It s time for another CCSB Road Trip. This time we will be traveling to The Gold Country. The trip is for five days Friday, May 16 through Tuesday, May 20. It will potentially include: exploring a cavern, wine tasting, attempting to strike it rich, traveling through several national forests on magnificent Corvette loving roads, visiting historic sites, dining in a hotel with ghosts, antiquing, and enjoying the magnificent scenery. This is an excellent time to visit this area while the spring flowers are in full bloom, the hills are green, and the summer crowds have not yet arrived. On the return part of our trip we will travel over to the California Coast for a last night s stay in Big Sur. Our route will take us up 101 to Paso Robles, crossover to Hwy 99 via Hwys 46, 41 and 43. We will have lunch in Hanford at a business with lots of automobilia. From Hwy 99 we will take Hwy 108 to Hwy 49. From Hwy 49 we will take Hwy 4, with stops near Murphy's to explore a cavern and taste wine. We will be heading into the higher elevations around 7,000 feet as we continue on Hwy 4 driving through Stanislaus National Forest and Toiyabe National Forest. We will take Hwy 88 through Eldorado National Forest making our way back to Hwy 49. We may revisit the Corvette Club Santa Barbara gold strike of 1994 site at Coloma to see if there is any gold left. We hope to have a couple of our seasoned CCSB gold spotters on this trip to assist the first timers. Beware that if gold fever strikes, you may need to catch up with us where we camp for the night. Gold fever has been known to strike this group in the past. We will continue north on Hwy 49 through Auburn, Grass Valley, and Nevada City. Nevada City will be our northernmost stop. When we head south we may try our skills at an indoor go cart track, visit a museum, or whatever else I discover on my internet browsing between now and May. You never know what I will come up with in my quest to take you to places you have never been before. We will drive down Hwy 5, and then head for the Pacific via Hwy 156. If I have not crammed too much into our schedule I would like our last night out to be in Big Sur. All of the above is still in the early planning stages and venues are subject to change based on timing and availability, but Fred and I would love to have you join us on this getaway. If you did not sign up for this trip at the January meeting, please contact me ASAP by phone 805-647-3881 or email to sharon@smithshome.com so I have a fairly accurate list of who is going when I start making our lodging and restaurant arrangements. If you have any questions about the trip, please contact me. Owners can schedule a special visit to the Museum where Owning pieces of your Corvette s history is a great way to document and preserve your Corvette. If you own a 1981 through current year Corvette, you can order a build sheet and replica window sticker through the Museum and complete your package with the original dealer brotheir Corvette receives a exterior cleaning and is then displayed on the floor of the Museum Delivery area similar to the highly requested R8C program. A VIP plant tour and more are included in the program. See the NCM website for details.

Page 3 Volume 2, Issue 1 Super Bowl Party Ca r o l Ca m p b e l l Sunday February 3rd It s the grownups turn to have fun, so hire that baby sitter and come party with us. Charlie and Carol Campbell, with Bob and Diane Szalay, are once again hosting this annual event to be held at Cathedral Oaks Village Club House, 651 Avenida Pequena, Santa Barbara. Be sure to arrive by 2:30 PM, before game time. Please bring a dish to share, President s Message Happy New Year!! We ended the year with our annual CCSB Christmas party. And what a way to end the year! We had our party at Mulligan s Café and they did a terrific job. The appetizers were tasty, the salad, prime rib, chicken and side dishes were outstanding and the chocolate cream pie was delicious. The club supplied the wine so nothing was missing. Roger Hoyt set up a continuous slide show presentation showing our many club activities throughout the year. It was fun to watch. Thanks, Roger! We had our much anticipated gift exchange after dinner. Almost everyone serving utensils for your dish, and drinks of your choice. The club house has a full kitchen so we can chill, heat, and serve whatever you bring. Don t try to feed everyone, a family size portion will suffice. We will have a football pool, so be sure to bring dollar bills for the pool. Parking is available in front of the clubhouse (14 spaces). For those of you who arrive after those are taken, there is additional parking on behaved! And those of you who didn t well, you know who you are!! Then there was much laughter as Frank bestowed the dreaded red tie on Bob Stallings. According to tradition, it will be his job to protect it and then pass it on to another unsuspecting club member at the Christmas party next year. the street.. Directions: Take Hwy.101 Northbound exiting at Patterson exit. Turn towards the mountains to Cathedral Oaks Blvd. and turn left. Turn at the first left onto Avenida Pequena. Turn right at the third driveway on your right. You have arrived at the Club House. If you need additional assistance, call Charlie or Carol at 964-9066. This is always a really fun get together, can't wait to see you all again! B a r ba r a LoM o na c o Save the date Mulligan s already has us on the calendar for December 13, 2008!
