2 PORTAGE presentation Developed and Directed by Alex Dault We then bore about three or four miles up [Kempenfelt] bay, and put up at a log-house, newly erected on the 110th bank, almost close to the water's edge. The driver was provided with food and clothing for the horses, which were scarcely defended from the weather by the miserable hut allotted to them as a stable. They were, I believe, the first pair of horses ever there. -George Head, 1815, Forest Scenes and Incidents
3 Introduction This May and June, join us on a journey into the city of Barrie s mysterious past. Nine Mile Portage is a collective creation performance of song, story and movement developed over the course of the winter by five artists commissioned by Theatre by the Bay.
