GWRRA Arizona Chapter A Region F California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Hawaii http://www.gwrraaz.org/aza Facebook page, GWRRA Tucson Chapter A Director s Corner Chapter Director, Mike Hagen The upcoming Arizona district rally is fast approaching, just 3 months away. I hope we can have a huge representation from chapter AZ-A. We are tasked with manning the registration desk at the rally and we need volunteers to help out, the shifts are 2 to 3 hours. This is a great way to meet up with old friends and make new ones. So please think about spending some time at the registration desk. At this time I don t know the schedule of events but I am sure you will be able to find a slot to help out. We are going to compete for chapter of the year. Your participation in our gatherings, events, and other activities will help us look good when all the numbers are added up. Dennis & Debbie have volunteered to keep track of the numbers and paper work. So let s keep them busy and make chapter A shine. PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES We need your PICTURES from past chapter actives to help Connie fill in some blank spots in our chapter scrapbook. She is doing a great job with it but needs our help to fill in some missing years. For those of you could not make it to the motorist awareness at the Texas canyon rest stop we all had a good time visiting with chapter E and greeting the people who stopped. We gave away over 170 bottles of water and a bunch of safety bumper stickers and pencils. A lot of the motorist took the time to look at all the bikes and trikes. The trikes seemed to be their favorites. I hope to see everyone at our gathering Saturday 7/15/17. We will be having another class after our gathering this one is What. I would also like to remind everyone to be careful when riding in and around thunder storms because many of them may also have a hail storm preceding them. Also watch out for flash floods and do not enter flooded washes. Don t forget to take extra rest stops so you can stay hydrated. Heat stroke is something you do not want to suffer through. Till next month keep the shiny side up. Ride safe and watch out for distracted drivers. Mike CD WE want to give Gene and Jeannie a big thank you for having the Orphan Party at their house again this year. Sorry I did not get any pictures or someone to write the article to say what a good time they had, but I will Thank Gene and Jeannie. Mike & Susan Orphan Party @ Gene & Jeannies

A note from Rider Education: By Mel Tillett Due to the season we are into, hydration, hydration, hydration!!! Heat Exhaustion can lead to Heat Stroke if left untreated: Do you know the warning signs?? It s even Deadlier in older Adults! According to WebMD 2017: Heat exhaustion is a heat-related illness that can occur after you've been Exposed to high temperatures, and it often is accompanied by dehydration. There are two types of heat exhaustion: Water depletion. Signs include excessive thirst, weakness, headache, and loss of consciousness. Salt depletion. Signs include nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, and dizziness. Although heat exhaustion isn't as serious as heat stroke, it isn't something to be taken lightly. Without proper intervention, heat exhaustion can progress to heat stroke, which can damage the brain and other vital organs, and even cause death. Symptoms of Heat Exhaustion The most common signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion include: Confusion Dark-colored urine (a sign of dehydration) Dizziness Fainting Fatigue Headache Muscle or abdominal cramps Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea Pale skin Profuse sweating Rapid heartbeat Treatment for Heat Exhaustion If you, or anyone else, has symptoms of heat exhaustion, it's essential to immediately get out of the heat and rest, preferably in an air-conditioned room. If you can't get inside, try to find the nearest cool and shady place. Other recommended strategies include: Drink plenty of fluid (avoid caffeine and alcohol). Remove any tight or unnecessary clothing. Take a cool shower, bath, or sponge bath. Apply other cooling measures such as fans or ice towels. If such measures fail to provide relief within 15 minutes, seek emergency medical help, because untreated heat exhaustion can progress to heat stroke
