DAY 1: Wednesday 7th March, 2018 MELBOURNE TO BAIRNSDALE Welcome to our Gippsland Lakes Tour. This morning we complete our chauffeured home pickup service and board the coach for a leisurely drive to Bairnsdale. We enjoy lunch at Morwell and take a wander through the magnificent Centenary Rose Garden. A highlight this afternoon is our visit to the Maffra Motor Museum where we inspect a comprehensive collection of vehicles, bikes and memorabilia on display. A short drive takes us to Bairnsdale our base for the next 4 nights. OVERNIGHT: Comfort Mitchell on Main, BAIRNSDALE DAY 2: Thursday 8th March, 2018 Today we head to the historic Port of Sale to board our boat Spirit II. Our Captain Jock and his friendly crew will provide us with information about our cruise and the entire Lakes Region. We cruise the 2.5 km man-made channel to the Thomson River and on to its junction with the Latrobe River. Here we pass the historic and restored swing bridge (1883) before cruising along the Latrobe River to view the abundant birdlife at Dowd Morass Game Reserve and on into Lake
Wellington. We enjoy lunch on board as we cruise past Marley Point and into the Avon and Perry Rivers. We return back to Lake Wellington and cruise through McLennans Strait to see more birdlife in the wetlands on either side of the boat. We stop at the small lake-side village of Hollands Landing for our coach transfer to our accommodation for the night. OVERNIGHT: Comfort Mitchell on Main, BAIRNSDALE DAY 3: Friday 9th March, 2018 After breakfast, our coach transfers us back to the boat at Hollands Landing and we cruise along Lake Victoria, past the township of Loch Sport in the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, to Wattle Point on the Banksia Peninsula where we stop for a BBQ lunch. We then cruise on to Sperm Whale Head for a short walk. Back on board we cruise down Aurora and Grange Channels, past Rotten and Barton Islands to Ocean Grange where we stop for walk across to the 90 Mile Beach and Bass Strait. We cruise back up Steamer Channel to Paynesville, where our coach will be waiting to transfer us to our accommodation with time to relax before dinner tonight. DAY 4: Saturday 10th March, 2018 After breakfast, we transfer back to the boat and cruise through the canal estates to view some of the magnificent homes before crossing Lake King. We continue cruising up the Tambo River as far as Johnsville before returning to Lake King and into the Nicholson River. We cruise upstream to the Nicholson Pub for lunch. After lunch we return down the Nicholson to Lake King and across to Jones Bay to see the Mitchell River Silt Jetties, now the longest silt jetties in the world. We cruise through the jetties before entering the Mitchell River to stop at Bairnsdale where our coach is waiting to take us to our accommodation. OVERNIGHT: Comfort Mitchell on Main, BAIRNSDALE DAY 5: Sunday 11th March, 2018 After breakfast, we board the boat at Bairnsdale. We cruise downstream to cross Lake King before exploring a couple of creeks along the way before stopping for lunch at Metung. After lunch there is time for a walk around the little village of Metung. Then we cruise back into Lake King, along Reeve Channel and between Fraser and Rigby Islands to The Flagstaff, passing Barrier Landing along the way. At the Flagstaff Lookout we disembark to view the entrance from Bass Strait into the Gippsland Lakes. From here we cruise to Lakes Entrance to dock. We are met by our coach and transferred to our accommodation, with time to freshen up before our farewell dinner tonight. OVERNIGHT: RSL Glenara Motel, LAKES ENTRANCE
DAY 6: Monday 12th March, 2018 Lakes Entrance to Home After breakfast we farewell our Spirit of Australia Cruises Captain and crew and board the coach for a scenic drive home. At Sale we leave the Princess Highway and travel through Southern Gippsland to Tarraville, once Gippsland s largest town. We see the unusual early wonder Church of England Christ Church which is listed on the National Estate records as Victoria s second oldest timber building. At nearby Port Albert we visit the award winning Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum before travelling via Foster, Leongatha and Korumburra to Melbourne. As always our chauffeurs will return us safely home with memories of a unique cruise experience on the beautiful Gippsland Lakes. CONDITIONS OF TRAVEL Any special passenger requirements must be notified to O Shannessy s Tours at the time of booking. No passenger will be permitted to embark or continue on the tour while their mental or physical condition is, in the opinion of any representative of O Shannessy s Tours, such as to render them incapable of caring for themselves, or whereby they become objectionable to other passengers, or they become a hazard to themselves or other passengers. O Shannessy s Tours will not be responsible for expenses resulting in such persons being precluded from completing the tour for any such reason. It is also a requirement of O Shannessy s Tours that each passenger is able to negotiate coach steps without the aid of the coach crew or other passengers. Any passenger who requires assistance for any of the above is required to travel with a companion capable of providing all necessary assistance. If you are willing to twin share but are a smoker or have a CPAP machine or snore, you will need to pay a single supplement for a sole use room.
