Issue 9 Wednesday, October 26, 2016 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE: Following the talk last week from Senior Constable Steve Smith, I trust you have taken steps to be very vigilant with emails that could potentially destroy your computers. It is frightening how simple it could be for Ransomware to infect our systems. John Palmer President, Mackay West Rotary Grace This week will be our big week for the year with the Christmas Fair on Friday and Saturday nights. There will also be setting up on Friday morning and clean up on Sunday morning. Details of all requirements will be provided at this week s meeting. Thank you to all who have been involved in organising the various stalls for the Fair. Despite the best efforts by Vic Mason, we will not have the electronic message boards beside some roads this year to advertise the Fair this weekend. We were not able to obtain insurance for them and have decided not to proceed with them. There are some other events on this weekend, so we hope we get our usual supporters to come along to the Fair on both nights. John F. Germ President, Rotary International The spectacular Melbourne Cup extravaganza is on next Monday night, 31 October at Harrup Park 6.30 for 7pm. Please invite your friends along to help make it a fun-filled, enjoyable evening. This will take the place of our meeting on Wednesday 2 November. I have been discussing with the local representatives from Cystic Fibrosis about a presentation of our donation from the Swap Meet. We are endeavouring to get some very good publicity for Mackay West Rotary from this and I will advise further once arrangements have been finalised. We have been asked to do a sausage sizzle for the Cystic Fibrosis Fun Run on Sunday 13 November. Community Service Director, George Nikolsky will provide more information on this in the next couple of weeks. I trust that the weather is fine and good crowds attend for the Fair this weekend. Issue 1 Wednesday, 31 August 2016 Senior Constable Steve Smith discussed the growing issues of Cybercrime that are threatening individuals and businesses alike. MELBOURNE CUP FUN NIGHT MONDAY 31 OCTOBER. This is an invite to all Rotarians & Partners to attend a social night with a Melbourne Cup theme. This will be in place of our normal meeting night of 2 November. As this is a fun night, we would ask you to bring a few Issue friends 1 Wednesday, and 31 allow August them 2016 to enjoy the night of Rotary and fellowship. We are arranging a nice dinner with complimentary wine, Melbourne Cup sweeps and of course, as in the past, the THE WEST ROTARY MELBOURNE CUP with our own members as jockeys. As usual, this carries a large number of prizes for the winners. There will be a number of sweeps available for those who like a bit of a flutter. I have checked out the horses and they are looking the part except for a little dust which will need cleaning before the day. Their breeding is of a high standard, which I m sure will come out on the night. So put a group together and come and enjoy a night of Melbourne Cup fever. There will be more info over the next few weeks. Please get your friends together and let s enjoy a night of Rotary fellowship together. Colin Meng.
