On behalf of the Friends of the Pacific Electric Trail, we invite you to participate in our 14 th Annual Pacific Electric Challenge on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Friends of the Pacific Electric Trail is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization promoting active and healthy lifestyles in the Inland Empire through the use of the 21-mile Regional Pacific Electric Trail. The PE Trail is a converted rail-trail that connects 5 cities: Rialto, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Montclair. The Pacific Electric Challenge (formerly the Cucamonga Challenge ) was created as a yearlong initiative to Challenge individuals with their own fitness goals in manageable incremental steps. From couch-to-trail to intermediate/expert fitness levels, the challenge encourages an active, healthy lifestyle that leads to a happier & healthier community. The annual Pacific Electric Challenge is a family-fun event to showcase the progress of those fitness goals while connecting & engaging the community. 600 runners, walkers, and cyclists are anticipated to be a part of the 2019 Challenge on May 18, 2019 at Central Park, Rancho Cucamonga. Open to all levels, the Challenge will consist of 4 events to choose from: Running: 5K 10K Cycling: 50-mile 25-mile bike ride Due to the popularity of our event, we are co-sponsored with the city of Rancho Cucamonga supporting a Healthy RC Initiative, which draws a lot of event participants & general public foot traffic to your booth. We successfully introduced the Challenge Passport which drives participants to visit all our sponsor booths in order to be eligible for the grand prize drawings. The Friends of the Pacific Electric Trail is dedicated to promoting ongoing trail use while providing funding for amenities not included in the basic trail construction. Trail amenities include benches & rest stops, bike racks, pet stations, and additional drought tolerant landscaping. Funds raised from the Pacific Electric Challenge will support the addition of trail amenities as well as fund the restoration of the Historical Etiwanda Train Depot as a new trailhead access point with a water station & public restroom facility. What is a rail trail? Rail trails are multi-purpose public paths created from abandoned railroad corridors, although in some cases active rail lines may still exist. There are over 13,150 miles of rail trails in 48 states within the United States. Flat or following a gentle grade, Page 2 of 5
