The Extension Homemakers held their meeting with guest speaker Kilee Brookbank. We also had a reception at the office for Dick Clary and Bill Tolle where they were honored and recognized for their many years of service to Mason County Extension. The sixth session of What s In My Kitchen? on cast iron cookware took place and went really well. Cooking The Books was held at the Mason County Public Library where we read The Watermelon Seed and snacked on some fresh watermelon! Cooking Through The Calendar was held where we prepared and sampled Broccoli Salad. I visited with the seniors at the Mason County Senior Center and talked about some of our Plate It Up! Kentucky Proud recipes. We ended the month with a 3-day workshop on Food Preservation! Recipe Corner Asparagus is in season from April through May in Kentucky. They are a good source of Vitamin A and folate. Store upright with cut ends in water or wrapped in a wet paper towel in a plastic bag. Keep refrigerated. Remember to buy Kentucky Proud products at your local grocery store or farmers market!
Important Dates to Remember Thursday, May 11: Live, Laugh, and Learn Playdate will take place at the Mason County Extension Office from Thursday, 10:00 am until July 12:00 What s pm. In My Kitchen? will take place from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm at the Mason County Extension Office. July s topic is Pressure Canners. Please call the office to sign up. Monday, July 16: Cooking the Books will take place from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Mason County Public Library. This program is for children under the age of 10. Tuesday, June 19: Cooking Through The Calendar will take place at the Mason County Extension Office from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. We will be making and sampling Fruit Treat. Please call the office to sign up. *Please Note: The 6:00 pm session has been cancelled for the rest of the year due to lack of participation* Thursday, July 19: A class on machine embroidery will take place from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Mason County Extension Office. Topics covered will be threads and hooping techniques. July 24-26: Operation: Food Preperation will be held for 9:00 am until 3:00 pm for children ages 8-12. This is a FREE cooking day camp. Space is limited. Please call the office to sign up. Tuesday, July 31: Germantown Fair Open Class Floral Hall Exhibits will be accepted from 8:00 am until 2:30 pm at the Germantown Fairgrounds.
