AUSTIN AREA CAR CLUB S Information Station Visit our website: www.austinareacc.com D EC., 2009 President s Message: The last month went well for the club with a great lunch meeting in Taylor. Everyone liked the food and Jim Curls tour route. We will be seeing more of that restaurant next year for sure. We had our first "car of the month award at the meeting and it went to a MOPAR. And I thought Mr. and Mrs. Ford Only would be biased. The minutes should contain the details. Don't forget to RSVP for the Christmas party so the club doesn't waste money that we can't recoup. It costs us $25/person and the money is just wasted if you don't show up and pay your co-pay of $10 /person. Also if you don't reply we may not have enough food for you. Don't forget to bring gifts to exchange (see page 8) also if you desire. Also the Pate jackets and year tabs will be available there too for those of you that helped with Pate this year. I went to the Bastrop car show on the 14th which was a huge success with over 300 cars and several of our clubs members present. There were plenty of food booths, BEER, and even arts, crafts, and antique booths to spend money at. And I did! See ya'll at the Christmas party!!!!! Billy NOTICE: YOUR RSVP TO RUTH IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE CHRISTMAS PARTY. SEE ALL INFORMATION BELOW AND THE DATE. PAGE 2 Minutes of November Meeting President Billy Hutson opened the meeting at the Taylor Seafood and Steak restaurant after a very nice long tour among the back roads from Georgetown to Taylor. Billy thanked Jim Curl for leading the group over the tour that he planned. We had a couple of guests, Tom and Marilyn Astengo, Tom from Sun City who had a very nice red 64 Corvette. The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as published and a motion was made by Denis Springer and seconded by Bob Deets the motion passed. Ruth Fredericksen gave the treasurer s report. Bob Ross made the motion to accept the report as red and published, Jim Curl seconded, and the motioned passed. Karen reported that she had sent Billy Huston a card for his back and we found out about Margo Springer had surgery on her right foot. Also Norm had had an operation to take one inch off his leg because of an infection. Cards are going out the Margo and Norm as Karen was not notified of the illnesses. If someone knows of illness or hospitalization, please contact Karen Ross at 512-255-4616 or 512-731-0588. Gary Smith presented the first of the renewed Car of the Month plaques to Bob Deets for his 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger. Bob s story and picture of his car is elsewhere in this newsletter. Billy asked Bob Ross for the nominating Committee s slate of officers for next year. They are: Billy Hutson, President Jim Curl, Vice President Ruth Fredericksen, Treasurer Bob Ross, Secretary Steve Koehn, Pate Director James (Buck) Jones and Denis Springer, Directors Norm Haupt, Newsletter Editor This is the same slate as last year. Nominations were opened to the floor and none were made. The nominations were closed and Gary Smith made the motion to accept the slate as given. Lyndon Sterns seconded and the motion passed. Bob Ross gave a report on the new Texas Department of Motor Vehicles press conference on Friday October 30 th. There were 2 cars from the Austin Area Car Club, 8 cars from the Donut Gang, and several from TXDOT employees. A 1904 REO was there as well as Dennis Lebo s Falcon Futura, and Bob Ross 63 Olds 98. One of the donut gang had a very nice 54 Mercury convertible with an embossed mercury head in vinyl of the top one third of back seat. The dignitaries were: the TXDOT Director, the State Legislator who sponsored the bill to create the DMV and the new Director of the DMV. The car show in Marble Falls was a great success and Gary Westfall won 1 st place in the 60 s category. There is a new car museum in San Marcos now. We may want to plan a tour to the museum in the future. If someone wants to do so, they should speak up and plan the tour. Dues are now due. Renewal membership is still $10.00 and payable anytime now. Please send to Ruth Fredericksen and let her know what it is for so there is no confusion. There will be a fish fry on Saturday the 21 st of November in Briggs, TX. It starts at 5:00pm. The Christmas Party is December the 5 th with social hour starting at 5:00pm and diner at 6:00pm. We will again hold a Chinese gift exchange. Gifts should be in the $15-20 range and labeled as Male or Female. RSVP s are very important on this one because we pay for the amount we give them by Thursday the 3 rd of December. Lewis Igo won the door prize of a compressor start-up kit. Gary Smith made a motion to adjourn and it was seconded by both Millie Deets and Patrick Martin. The motion was carried and everyone started eating. Respectively submitted by Bob Ross Secretary
