The little ones thoroughly enjoyed the stories and got a real kick out of Mr. Schexnider, who clowned around with the children, making them smile and laugh! Teacher Ready! As part of October s ElderStory reminiscing activity program, themed High School Years, Pelican Pointe residents and former educators, Ms. N. Fox and Ms. J. Schaub sat at the Teacher Ready desk and shared stories of their careers with other residents.

Page 3 The Pelican Pointe of View Happy Anniversary! Mr. and Mrs. Thomas recently celebrated their 69 th wedding anniversary with family and friends. We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon with food, music, and plenty of decorations. An anniversary is a time to celebrate the joys of today, the memories of yesterday, and the hopes of tomorrow. ~Author Unknown Honoring Our Grandparents Last month, we had the opportunity to show our love and appreciation for Pelican Pointe grandparents during the annual Grandparents Day Social. Fifteen year-old Kay Meaux performed for our residents with the sweet sounds of her voice and flute. Her heartwarming performance almost brought us to tears. Another young entertainer, six year-old Colin Broussard, had the residents rocking and rolling with his accordion playing skills. Thank you to our young performers and staff for making the Social such a special success! During a celebration of the famous singer-songwriter Michael Jackson s birthday, residents enjoyed an afternoon of singing and tasting astronaut food. How fitting is that? As it was Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, who made the moonwalk dance move popular around the world in 1983.

Page 4 The Pelican Pointe of View Veterans Social Each quarter, Pelican Pointe honors our American military veterans with a special Veterans Social. These celebrations are to ensure our veterans know how much we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made to keep our country free. Recently, we served Nu-Nu s famous burgers with sides and cold drinks to our veterans. Door prizes and reminiscing were also part of the celebration. Falling For Fall Foliage! Fall is here! And for Pelican Pointe residents, that means another visit to the Flower Bed nursery in Lafayette. As residents became reacquainted with old friends, others showed a little football enthusiasm, and we all enjoyed looking, smelling, and touching the beautiful fall foliage.

Page 5 The Pelican Pointe of View Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! A rare albino tiger, a slithering snake, and other animals were part of Pelican Pointe residents recent field trip to the Zoo of Acadiana. We had such a fun afternoon not just being outdoors, but visiting with animals, who somehow bring out the children in us. A special part of our visit was a session where zoo workers let us touch a variety of animals. Just the touch of an animal s fur brought out a wave of smiles! Painting with Pelicans Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation residents recently enjoyed an afternoon of painting with acrylics on canvas. Led by resident artist, Ms. Janice Schaub, a beautiful rendering of a pelican came to life as the ladies brushed on color.
