May June 2011 The Prez Sez... For the Wisconsin Unit, the April camp out and luncheon kick off the Streamin season, and suddenly, here it is! Thanks for a great luncheon and camp out, Mark and Ellen. This newsletter goes to press, electronically speaking, less than a week before our May Touring Wisconsin Alps rally in New Glarus. Only a week after the New Glarus rally, the Badgers Go Buckeye caravan departs for the Alumapalooza and Spirit of Cleveland rallies in Ohio. A few weeks after that the International rally is just down the road in Du Quoin, IL. With the International rally in Illinois and the Region 7 and Region 7 VAC rallies both in Wisconsin, we decided not to have a summer Unit rally this year too much going on already! By all means do sign up for the Region 7 rally; Region President Joan Lahr has put together a great rally that no true cheese head will want to miss! But just because we aren t having an August unit rally, don t think we are slacking off! The weekend following the early September VAC rally at Elkhart Lake is the Apostle Islands Adventure rally in Washburn, and Ed & Sandy Emerick are planning a Weird Wisconsin caravan from Elkhart Lake to Washburn. Ed & Sandy will keep your wheels turning as far as you want to turn them! And as if that wasn t enough, they re hosting the October rally in Door County! (Or somewhere around there.) Before getting off my soapbox, a little shameless politicking. Ballots have been distributed to all unit members to be voted by mail or at the May rally. We are being asked to decide two amendments to the WBCCI constitution. In my opinion, Amendment 1 a complete revision of the Constitution is, on balance, not a good thing. I advocate a NO vote on Amendment 1, either as proposed, or as may be revised at the Delegates Meeting. And, again in my personal opinion, Amendment 2 is a good idea and I recommend a YES vote. See you this summer! May Unit Rally Reminder With luck, this newsletter will reach you a few days before the May rally, Touring Wisconsin Alps, New Glarus, WI. If you decide to come at the last minute, there is plenty of space at the campground and you can pay the rally fee at the rally. The thing that we do need to know ASAP are your entrée choices for the group dinner and show at the New Glarus Hotel. Your choices are Wienerschnitzel, baked pork chop, or Kaesechuechli, an individual cheese pie. Send to John Sellers at sellersj@erinet.com or (cell) 937-478-7267. Region 7 Rally Reminder Cutoff date for registration and reservations for the Region 7 Wings, Rails, and End Zones rally, De Pere, Wisconsin, is June 1, fast approaching! We will be camped at Apple Creek Campground www.applecreekcamping.com/ The number of available sites is limited, so members must make their campsite reservations by June 1 For reservations call Apple Creek Campground at 920-532-4386. $25 deposit required. On the Mend Our unit has a lot of members in the sick bay this month. Lilly King, Dick Riddell, Bob Manak, Ellen McGaughey, and Dave Mayo are all either ill or recovering from surgery. Let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers (and cards, phone calls, and emails). Business Meeting at May Rally Much as our unit likes to keep its business meetings short*, there are a number of important issues that we need to talk about at the spring business meeting at the May rally. (*I believe the record, 20 minutes, is held by past president Don Stenz at the September, 2009 rally at Bailey s Harbor.) Candidates for International office and two amendments to the WBCCI constitution will be considered by the Delegates Meeting at the 2011 International Rally. The Wisconsin Unit allows voting either by mail or in person at the spring business meeting, which will be held Saturday morning, May 21 at the New Glarus rally. Ballots have been distributed to unit members by email and mail in accordance with the way they receive the newsletter. Those returning their ballots by mail are reminded that ballots must be received by the Unit Secretary by May 19 in order for her to bring them to the business meeting to be counted. The unit is currently running on a skeleton crew of officers, basically, president, secretary, and treasurer, the minimum needed to operate. The vice president pipeline is dry. We will need some new skeletons when the current officers terms expire. (Terms not officers hopefully, anyway!) We have some tentative commitments for next year and will need to discuss this further at the meeting. Trailer for Sale Airsteam 1987 Excella 1000, 32 feet. Good condition, nonsmoking, no pets. April Unit Camp Out Wisconsin Dells KOA, Wisconsin Dells April 29 May 1, 2011 Mark & Ellen McGaughey again hosted the April unit camp out and luncheon at Wisconsin Dells, in what has become an annual rite of passage into the Airstreaming season. (Hopefully, anyway.) The weather cooperated nicely this year, with mild temperatures and only a little rain, and that at night.... whilst Kay, Ellen and Sandy look on, and Seymour catches a few Z s on a warm afternoon. Airstreams viewed from the hill This year our numbers were reduced by regular attendees on the sick list. We had six trailers for the camp out, but more members for the luncheon. The Dells KOA welcomed us back with their usual outstanding hospitality, and still more refinements to their popular party room including British flags in honor of the royal wedding! Although in theory no food service is included in a camp out, there was no shortage of good things to eat! Friday evening we all repaired to a fish fry at the neighboring golf course, and Ellen hosted impromptu pitch ins on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Saturday evening supper in the KOA party room. Disregard non-airstream 5 th wheel in the middle! Sunday morning breakfast in the party room Past unit presidents Ed Emerick and Don Stenz contemplate the year s activities while starting their aluminum recycling piles... 3 Chillin on Sunday morning Thanks, Mark & Ellen, for another great camp out!

April Luncheon Moosejaw Pizza and Microbrewery, Wisconsin Dells April 30, 2011 Like the accompanying camp out, the April luncheon was hosted by Mark and Ellen McGaughey. In a creative token of spring, Ellen provided packets of assorted flower seeds as party favors. Once again we had the Moosejaws s Rathskeller party room to ourselves, with bar (and video arcade) conveniently adjoining. Lots to talk about in this season kickoff luncheon, including the year s upcoming rallies and caravans, trailer improvements, aches and pains, and other Airstreamy topics. Have you ever noticed that Airstreamers never run out of things to talk about? Fun, fellowship and adventure! (Mostly the former.) Socializing before lunch gets underway. The Bloody Marys were quite popular at this year s luncheon. Moosejaw s recipe provides your minimum daily requirement of vegetables with each serving! We had a good turnout for the luncheon, including several members who didn t make it to the camp out. Thanks, Mark and Ellen, for another great Dells luncheon and camp out. By this time of year we re ready for spring! ====================================== Reminder - no Badger Bulletin in June The Badger Bulletin is published 10 months out of the year; June is omitted because of the International Rally and December because of the holidays. The next edition will come out in July. 4
