The popular village of Aberlour is located about 9 miles to the north and provides a good range of shops, restaurants, and inns as well as highly regarded primary and secondary schooling. Further amenities are also available in Grantown on Spey (about 14 miles) which also has a cottage hospital. Private schooling is available at Gordonstoun Independent School, about 30 miles away. The historic city of Elgin (about 24 miles) provides a more extensive range of facilities including a railway station on the main Inverness to Aberdeen line, hospital, cinema, leisure centre and a wide selection of supermarkets and shops. Inverness and Aberdeen airports are about 47 and 63 miles away respectively offering frequent scheduled flights to the South and Europe. Cairngorm National Park and is at the heart of Speyside, an area best known for its beautiful countryside, salmon fishing and malt whisky production. The region offers many opportunities for sport and recreation with a number of way marked walks and cycle trails nearby, including the Speyside Way. Fishing, shooting and stalking are available on many of the local estates, including salmon fishing on the world famous Rivers Spey and Avon which are within a short walk of the cottage. There are a number of golf courses in the area, including the beautiful course at Ballindalloch over which the cottage has uninterrupted views. The Lecht Ski and Activity Centre near Tomintoul and the Cairngorm Ski Centre near Aviemore are now open all year round and accessible within a 30 minute drive. Speyside is considered as the home of malt whisky and this area forms part of the Whisky Trail with many distilleries including the recently opened Ballindalloch single Estate distillery with various visitors centres close by. Ballindalloch lies at the entrance to the
past the entrance to Ballindalloch Castle, the Delnashaugh Filling Station and the Ballindalloch Distillery and Golf Course before turning immediately left where sign posted to Kilmachie, Chapelton and Shenval.
