GOLD RUSH June 3-7 Let s go panning and spelunking! This week, we will learn all about the recreational pastime of spelunking as we explore a cave system and pan for gold in a nearby creek. Have fun learning about mining, rock formations, underground rivers and lakes, as well as other fun facts about these places. It should be a profitable week! FIELD TRIP: Caverns EATING AROUND THE WORLD June 10-14 If it s edible, we will give it a try! We will take a trip to every part of the world through our taste buds. A week of exploring what food looks, smells, and tastes like across the globe will surely excite your taste buds and delight your senses. FIELD TRIP: Gainsboro Teaching kitchen, local ethnic restaurant BARNYARD PALOOZA June 17-21 Yee Haw! Join us for a fun-filled week of animals, barnyards, and all that goes along with farms! Barnyard Palooza allows children to learn through an exploration of both farm animals and gardens. Learn how to care for animals, cultivate and harvest vegetables, and experience what life is like living on a farm. Enjoy a field trip to a local farm with all sorts of animals and make your own barnyard here at the Y where we can all get a little wild and crazy. FIELD TRIP: Local Farm TRAILBLAZERS June 24-28 Have you ever wondered what plants are harmful and which ones are helpful? Have you climbed the mountains in Virginia s Blue Ridge? Do you know how to track animals or build a shelter? Venture onto hiking trails of VBR and surrounding area to explore, learn, and disconnect with the screens to reconnect with nature. FIELD TRIP: Carvins Cove, Read Mountain Preserve, Fishburn Park, and Murray Run Greenway WILD THINGS July 1-5 (no camp July 4) This week we will be trekking through the untouched territories of the world. Guided mischief of one kind or another will be featured as we explore nature and tame wild critters. Unleash your inner monster and let the wild shenanigans begin! FIELD TRIP: Explore Park
LAB RATS July 8-12 It s time to grab our lab coats and strap on our safety goggles for this week s fun! Get ready to explore the science world through the laboratory. We will build exploding volcanoes and make bubbles that won t pop! Each day will feature hands-on experiments to surely entertain and excite! FIELD TRIP: Science Museum DECADES OF FUN July 15-19 Go back in time to the days of dinosaurs, the horse drawn carriages, fossils and black and white TV. Learn and play through exploring the tools and artifacts of old. Jump forward to space travel, teleporting and flying cars. Dream up the future through games and imagination! FIELD TRIP: Dinoland IMAGINARIUM WEEK July 22-26 Let your creativity run wild! This is a week devoted completely to fuel our imaginations. We will be dreaming up anything and everything we can think of as we explore dungeons, dragons, and other far away places our imaginations can take us. FIELD TRIP: Amazement Square BUGGIN OUT July 29-August 2 Eeek, BUGS! It s time to explore the bug life. Enjoy a week full of un-earthing those creepy-crawlers that generally sneak around undetected. Join us as we bug out over our insect friends while we venture through gardens, tight spaces, and dirt of all kinds to find them. FIELD TRIP: Virginia Western Arboretum CHALLENGE ACCEPTED August 5-9 Adventure awaits! This week will test all of our limits as we explore exciting and daring activities such as ropes courses, obstacle races, and blindfolded team games. Start to overcome those jitters that come with tall heights, physical vigor, and darkness by facing them head-on! Do you accept the challenge? FIELD TRIP: Mystery Destination WEEKLY THEMES: EXPLORATION!
SHIPWRECKED August 12-16 (last week of Kinder Camp) Prepare to set sail on this pirate adventure. Unfurl the sales and raise the Jolly Roger as we take to the high seas in search of adventure, glory, and hidden treasure. Follow the mysterious clues on the explorer map while we chart a course for the most fun you will have all year. FIELD TRIP: TBD GETTIN DIRTY August 19-23 Get ready to wear your outdoor clothes because things are about to get really dirty! One full week of nothing but exploring mud, slime, and all things messy! This is a time where kids get to be kids and have fun doing what they do best gettin dirty. Be sure to bring a towel to put on the car seat for the rides home! FIELD TRIP: G&H construction site and Garst Mill Creek SPACE THE FINAL FRONTIER August 26-30 Come explore the galaxies with us as we learn about space, stars, planets, and everything else galactic! Experience the adventures as an astronaut this week and make new discoveries in a vast world explored by very few. Have the courage to go where no man has gone before! FIELD TRIP: Radford University Planetarium C.I.T. PROGRAM Learn the skills necessary to be a counselor this summer. The CIT program offers teens the unique opportunity to develop strong leadership and program skills, teamwork, and values. CITs will help organize games and activities with the campers and assist the counselors with daily responsibilities. To apply, interested teens must complete the CIT application including references and return it to the Salem Family YMCA by May 13, 2019. Upon acceptance, CITs must attend a pre-camp orientation. REGISTER FOR CAMP! Reserve your camp weeks: A $10 non-refundable deposit per camp week is required at the time of registration and is subtracted from your weekly rate. The remaining balance will be processed the Monday prior to the week of camp. Registration deadline is the Monday before the first day of camp. You will receive an email with required paperwork that must be submitted the Monday before the first week of camp. Your child will not be admitted to camp unless all paperwork has been completed. REGISTER EARLY TO SAVE YOUR SPACE! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do you offer a multi-child discount? Yes! Families with two or more children signing up for the same camp week receive a $5 discount per week of camp for each additional child. Is a YMCA membership required to attend camp? A membership is not required to register for camp. However, those who maintain a YMCA membership at the time of registration through the end of a camp session receive member rates. Do you offer financial assistance? The YMCA is a non-profit charitable organization that strengthens the foundations of our community and provides financial assistance for those unable to pay the standard rates.
