Radnor Township Recreation and Community Programming Department Dear Parents, Radnor Day Camp Week 3: July 11 - July 15, 2016 Countdown to the Olympics! Three weeks down and three weeks to go. Campers enjoyed their full day trips to Coco Key and Arnold s Family Fun Center. We have diligently been preparing for the festivities next week. Week 4 is Camp Olympics Week. This week is a camp tradition and favorite among many campers and counselors. We will facilitate 3 official days of Olympic activities. Specialty Directors are also planning fun activates for teams to earn more points. The team with the most points wins! All campers were randomly divided into 2 teams: RED Team and BLUE Team. We want campers to show team spirit by wearing their team colors (RED or BLUE) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday! We are constantly striving to improve camp and our daily procedures. In the weeks moving forward, we plan to adjust our dismissal plan by switching the bus and parent pick up lines. Look for an email with more detailed information in the coming days. Thank you for your patience while we work to shorten our dismissal time and adjust our process. Trying to contact us? Swimming Hello everyone! I hope you are all staying cool, as we go through these various heat waves. Here at the pool we have been very busy going over the different strokes for swimming. This week we went over Backstroke & with some of the older kids we actually left in a few lane lines for them to try to swim the whole length of the 25 yard pool! This was a new experience for most of them & what high school athletes swim. This will encourage them, if it's something they are thinking of doing when they attend high school. We were very proud of them and I'm confident you would be also! Please remember to send in a good pair of swim goggles to give your child the best advantage of learning this important skill! Next week we move on to introducing Breaststroke. Have a great weekend! Mary Beth Ryan Aquatic Director Specialty Directors Spotlight Team Time Campers worked together to finish their 75th Birthday projects. Above you will see Group 2B s collection of 75 balls. During the week campers worked together to prepare for Camp Olympics! Leaders divided their students into teams and worked to create posters and cheers. Special Events Wet and Wild week was still a success even with the unfortunate rainy weather. The kids participated in some fun relay races and team building activities. Next week is CAMP OLYMPICS! Each child will be put on a blue or red team and will participate in events to earn points for their color. The kids will be learning a lot about the 2016 Olympics going on in Rio and be playing games native to Brazil. It will be very important to have sneakers every day and to come to camp with water!!!! Molly Toomey

Sports and Games Half way there! This week, campers enjoyed playing soccer and tennis racket baseball in the nice weather. Next week is Olympics, so get excited! Campers and counselors will be split up in teams of either Blue or Red. They will be playing various games throughout the week to rack up points for their team. At the end of the week, the points will be added up for a winner! We ask that your campers wear their team colors on Monday, Wednesday and Friday! Note: Please have campers wear sneakers, have a water bottle and applied sunscreen for outdoor events! Lewis Ellis Creative Crafts We have had a very busy week in the puppet workshop. Puppet theaters are coming together and puppets are coming alive. The conversations are centering on when, who, and how we are presenting puppet shows. The puppet performances will be informal improve shows. We will learn more as the process proceeds...meanwhile, Big thank-you to families that sent material donations; newspapers, twigs, file clips, buttons, ribbons and more. The diverse materials serve to inspire creativity. I hope to capture snippets of the final productions on video to share with you all. Don t forget to ask your children about their puppets. There is a lot of thought that goes into their final choices. Meredith Mustard

Hello, Performing Arts The campers are dancing machines this week at Radnor Day Camp! They are all working on their dances for the end of the summer performance of Toy Story. All of the campers are getting into gear and ready to entertain! There has been a lot of teamwork in all of the levels. The campers are working together to make sure that they have every detail in sync. Next week we will continue with the dances and play some stage presence games to get them ready for an awesome performance. Freeze dance is officially on a new level in Performing Arts next week! All of the campers will dance until they drop for Olympic points! Meghann Weaver SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE CAMP PERFORMANCE Cardboard Boxes (Any Size) Paper Towel Rolls Old Light Colored T-Shirts Paper Bags Wire Hangers LIT: Leaders in Training The LIT s have continued to grow as future leaders as we move into the middle of camp. Shadowing has become more inclusive as the LIT s are being given more responsibility with counselors every day. As all the LIT s are doing a phenomenal job, awards have been given out to those who ve exceeded expectations. Such awards include LIT of the week, and The Friendliest Friend. Lastly, Sam and Lauren will be handing back the goals paper initially filled out by the LIT s at the start of camp, to not only see how far each of them have come, but to also set new goals. Sam and Lauren LIT Coordinators
