Washington, DC Todd County School Trip June 2-5th, 2019
What s on the agenda? This is our proposed schedule. Things may change just a bit when finalizing (like times), however, we are planning on visiting these places.
Who can go? Even though this trip is sponsored by the GT program, any Todd County student, teacher, staff, and/or their family members may go with us. Any student under the age of 5th grade should have a family member traveling with him/her. A number of staff will be going as chaperones but younger children have had trouble traveling alone. Any adult traveling must have a background check on file at the board of education. These take about two weeks to complete. Arlington National Cemetery Arlington National Cemetery See the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, gravesite of President John F Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, and crew of the Challenger Space Expedition. How do we travel? We will leave from TCCHS and ride a motor coach to our destination. The bus is equipped with comfortable seats and DVD players. It even has a bathroom. However, we do make frequent stops along the way at travel area stops where you can pick up snacks or use the restroom. The recommendation is to take a pillow and rest on the trip up to Washington because there is a lot of walking the next few days!
How do we sleep? We will be staying in a luxurious hotel in Washington, DC. Participants are assigned 4 to a room unless the family pays an upcharge for less members to be in the room. I will work hard to put the members you would like to room with together if possible. The company does assign a security guard to watch our rooms and assure our students are safe in their rooms through the night hours. Having that extra peace of mind is awesome! Peterson House Ford Theater Across the street from the Ford Theater is the house where Lincoln died after being shot by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865.

Have we traveled with Junior Tours before? Yes! This will be our 4th trip with Junior Tours. We have been to: 2015 - Washington, DC - Great enough to return. So much to see and do! 2016 - New York- Long trip and well worth it. Can t wait to go again! 2017- New Orleans- One of the best trips. Lots of great memories made. 2018 - Chicago- Cancelled due to not have enough interest before the deadline.
How do we travel and know where to go? Junior Tours plans everything! Our bus takes us to the sites. The tour guide and bus drivers know exactly where and when to go. This is a worry free trip for us!
The biggee : How do we pay? Included in the cost of this trip is the hotel, travel, tour guide, several meals, tickets to all the attractions. I spend very little once I get on the bus to go. A few small meals while traveling is about the extent of the extra cost. First payment is due November 15th, 2018 Other payments due monthly and will be set up by the company once we reach 35 participants.
When do I sign up? This trip is pending approval the November Board Meeting approval and the commitment of 35 participants. Many have orally told me they want to go but I need to know for sure. Last year s trip was cancelled because People wanted to go but did not sign up. Signing up by the deadline ensures you have been counted in the trip. However, no money is deposited until both occurs, board approval and 35 people have signed up. Contact me today if you are, indeed, still interested in going. I will be happy to help you with the next steps. Or, read below to learn more.
