Cycle Superhighway CS9 Consultation on route through Hammersmith took place September 2017 HAMRA response: Proposed route likely to impact badly on lives of local residents without discernible local benefits. Wide, fast, disruptive cycle lane through narrow main street of Hammersmith will cause even more pollution from slow /stopped cars in King Street. Would exacerbate existing difficulties for King St users, including local cyclists and buses, e.g. older people seeking to cross the road or attempt to catch a bus on an "island" across a cycle lane. Obvious (and originally proposed) route alongside the A4 an infinitely preferable option to King Street. A4 route might encourage cyclists who currently use riverside streets/paths to divert to faster CS9 (King St route will not). TfL currently reviewing consultation responses.
Friends of Furnivall Gardens Green Flag Award: Furnivall Gardens awarded Green Flag status by Keep Britain Tidy. Award recognises parks with highest standards of cleanliness, horticulture and facilities. Tree Planting: In 2017 FoFG successfully applied to The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) for a Free London community tree pack. A planting day will be held on Sunday 4 th March at 10am to plant 200 small trees and hedging plants along the A4 boundary. Please come along and help. Berlin Lamp Restoration: The Berlin lamp and plaque have been restored and re-installed on the wall on Westcott Lodge. The Buclezs, of Westcott Lodge, worked with LBHF and commissioned a new cast iron stand for it. FoFG would like to thank the Buclezs for helping to bring the lamp back to working order again.
Heathrow Airport 3 rd Runway DoT consultation closed December 2017. Parliamentary Committee currently scrutinising the matter/hearing from depts. (incl. Transport and Environment) and other groups. Vote in Parliament due Spring-Autumn 2018 Heathrow Airport holding private consultation in some boroughs. Will be Hammersmith Town Hall on 20 Feb. No3rdrunwaycoalition members and many MPs object to this private consultation as it presupposes 3 rd runway approval. The steering committee of Handfnothirdrunway will be meeting on 8 Feb. to discuss the next steps in campaign. If you have not already signed up, please do so. @handfno3runway www.handfnothirdrunway.org
Riverside Studios/Queens Wharf Apartments now almost completed, many occupied. New stretch of Thames Path opened in Spring 2017. Fitting out of Riverside Studios in progress. Riverside Studios still scheduled to reopen later in 2018, but no dates available.
Hammersmith Bridge Repairs Assistant Project Manager at LBHF now in charge of community liaison and keeping local residents up-to-date. TfL want to restore the bridge, need more information before deciding what work required. Tests currently being carried out to evaluate strength, movement, etc. Results will determine scope, methodology and future use of the bridge. No time-scale yet available.
