THE FOUNDATION FOR DEMOCRACY IN AFRICA 19th Annual AfrICANDO 2017 U.S. Africa Trade & Investment Conference/Trade Show Supply Chain Development and Competitiveness under AGOA - Making AGOA Work for SME s in the Handicraft, Beverage, Ethnic Food and Spice Industries September 20 22, 2017 Miami, Florida, USA Miami Free Zone 2315 N. W. 107 Avenue 1M06 Box 12 Doral, Florida 33172 U. S.

Supply Chain Development and Competitiveness under AGOA - Making AGOA Work for SME s in the Handicraft, Beverage, Ethnic Food and Spice Industries The growing consensus in both the United States and Africa, is that open trade and international investment are among the fastest ways for Africa to further its economic growth, stimulate development, and reduce poverty. Enacted in May 2000, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been the cornerstone of a U.S. economic engagement with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), and is a key tool for expanding US-Africa trade and investment, and stimulating economic growth in SSA. Since inception, total African exports under AGOA, have more than quadrupled, and non-oil exports o the U.S. under AGOA nearly tripled from $1.4 Billion to $4.1 Billion in 2015, primarily due to increases in exports of auto parts, apparel, fruits, nuts, coca, prepared vegetables, and footwear. Currently, Africa is experiencing an explosion in small and medium enterprise (SME) development. Today, SMEs create approximately 80% of the region s employment, and SMEs are establishing a new middle class and fuelling demand for new goods and services. African Governments have now turned to SMEs to support future economic growth. However, African SMEs face a number of supply chain constraints, logistical issues and other barriers that limit their ability to export and their competitiveness under AGOA. AfrICANDO 2017 - will discuss US-Africa Trade, Supply Chain Development and Competitiveness Under AGOA, and How to Make AGOA Work for SME s in the Handicraft, Beverage, Ethnic Food and Spice Industries. AfrICANDO will address: the constraints and barriers that exist in identifying export markets for unique handicraft product lines, and ethnic food markets in this Hemisphere; how African nations can utilize Miami s strategic location and proximity to Africa to expand U.S. - Africa trade and investment and encourage the establishment of long-term trade partnerships and business linkages between Africa and the Americas, and expansion between these two markets. The event will also feature a trade show for SMEs in the handi-craft, ethnic food and spice industries. A second track that is designed for Transportation Executives will center on supply chain development in the transportation field. AfrICANDO s overriding objective is to develop strategies to: Leverage access to markets in the Western Hemisphere to support U.S. - Africa trade, and Stimulate trade, and investment between the U.S. and Africa using private sector participation and Florida as the nexus for trade expansion between these two markets. September 20-22, 201 Miami Free Zone, 2315 NW 107 th Avenue Doral Florida 33172
