Feb 1, 2019 Director s Ramblins 1 2019 Activities 2-3 New Event Poker Run 4-5 GWRRA Gathering/Meeting 6-10 Things my Motorcycle taught me 11 Ride to Pinnacle Mtn 12-14 Valentine s Day Party 15-20 Announcement 21 Facebook 22 One Country 23 We talk a lot about safety issues at our gatherings and rides. I was interested in an article in the Feb. issue of Wing World "Visibility". As many of us do we wear bright reflective vests and jackets hoping to increase our visibility to motorists. In this article it seems it helps but not as much as we think. Studies from Italy, Great Britain, and the US found that reflective bright color the and vests were not having the positive affect in reducing accidents as hoped. The study found that motorist can become fixated on the bright color and drive toward that fixation. They also found one of the greatest contributions to accidents is people don't expect to see a motorcycle on the road. Motorcycles make up only 3% of the motor vehicles on the roads today. With that few motorcycles registered no one is expecting to see a bike. Some other stats are unsafe behaviors: 27% of riders do not have a valid drivers license, 42% were under the influence of alcohol and 58 % not wearing a helmet against 8% were. It is important to remember there are limitations to any measure we take for safety but doing nothing is worse. We have a lot of exciting rides and events planned this year LETS RIDE COLORFUL, RE- FLECTIVE AND SAFE. Chuck and Sharon Eddy Chapter E Directors

AR District Poker Run 2019 AR District Touring Poker Run The purpose of this touring poker run is to enjoy some of the many interesting sites and rides during the coming year. It begins when announced and runs through the District Memorial Picnic. Rules for the Poker Run: This Poker Run is only for current members of AR Chapters in 2019 There are ten sites that have been selected from a list of suggestions by each Chapter of interesting locations located in Arkansas. Participants must submit a hard copy photo taken at these sites during 2019. The photo must include the designated site, you, your bike, and a copy of Wing World magazine or Gold Book. You must be in the photo, so make plans to ride with another member or find a volunteer to take your picture or a selfie. Get interested members in your Chapter to visit other Chapters and get your Picture while in that area. For each photo submitted, the participant will get to draw one playing card. If you turn in all 10 sites, you will draw 10 cards. You will build your best 5 card poker hand from the cards drawn. (No Jokers and Aces will count High and Low). In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by cutting cards. Each member must draw his or her own cards or predetermined designee. The drawing of poker hands will be at the end of the 2019 Memorial Picnic. Prizes will be announced later. We are soliciting motorcycle dealers to donate prizes. Written by Don Hewett

Fe We had 36 people attend our gathering. All the chairs were taken. It was a FULL house- However, I am sure when we have more members, we will find more chairs very quickly. Chuck announced our new Couple of the Year (COY), Butch & Judy Robbins. Jan spoke about the Mtn View trip May 29-June 3. The date was pushed back by 1 day to avoid a scheduling conflict with the Pines Cabins. Vin wanted to know who was interested in the NC ride before WD 41 There were several discussions about safety when riding. Jan will hold a Road Captains meeting to discuss this. Don updated us on the new Poker Run event. We now have 10 places to visit.

Midnight bugs taste just as bad as Noon time bugs Saddlebags can never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need. Don't ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise. Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of gas before you can think straight. Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you'll ride alone. Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town. Never do less than forty miles before breakfast.
We had 9 bikes, 4 Spyders, 3 Goldwings, 1 Indian and 1 BMW, with 10 riders!
